Next week's Radio Times (16-22 July) was delivered to my house this morning. In Alison Graham's television section, she talks about the BBC2 idents in her "Why We Love" section. She mentions briefly that the 2's have a lot of character and have more emotion than soap actors sometimes. The image pictured was the Morris Dancer ident.

So, after 14 and a half years, the 2 logo has gone a long way and I think it will feature on BBC2's ident's for years to come. Pity that the current idents are all yellow, as it doesn't bring the presentation for BBC2 any variation really, as Alsion said.

The '2' has made a return (outside of the yellow setting at last), as a sort of fluffy dog (no relation to the 90's ident though) in an Absolute Power trailer with Stephen Fry, to promote comedy on TWO, Thursdays I think. I've seen it, not bad at all it makes a refreshing change. Other trailers will be/have been shown.

Yes, Alison must have written the snippet on the BBC2 idents before the fluffy dog was launched.

The fluffy dog idea is very clever.

I prefered the 90's idents when the 2 was different in every one. I particularly remember the flykiller ident.

I think it was called Zapper, part of the second main set of 90's idents ('97 - '01), very nice ident it was!

There was more variation with the old two's but originally they had the same colour scheme although they all looked different. Remember how they had that greeny/blue colour? The 2 really got a personality in the autumn of 1993 when they had those 2 animations before the trailers, I don't think it's been that good since. The fact that they only use computer animation and a yellow and white scheme stifles the creativity. You only need to compare the recent 2 Christmas idents to others used in the 90's to see that. Rolling Eyes

And Alison Graham has a short memory, didn't she say the 2 idents were looking a bit stale compared to the new Channel 4 ones?

Alison Graham is a waste of space.

That is all.

She did indeed.
