BBC2 is being destroyed!! BBC1 are just raiding them and taking all of their top shows. I AM SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS!!
'One BBC'!
Why does it matter that much? I'm sure the bods at the BBC don't find it a problem that a good, popular series has been promoted (although I've never understood why a programme on BBC1 will get more viewers than it did on BBC2 after alll these years!). It really makes no odds to us the viewer what channle it's on, there's no real viewer loyalty towards BBC2 or BBC1
Besides it's not the first programme to make that move and it certainly won't be the last. It's a well deserved promotion for a top programme

True. Anyone who can get BBC2 can get BBC1 in theory, so it shouldn't really matter in terms of viewers. But it is fair to say that BBC2 is generally classed as inferior to BBC1, as BBC1 is the flagship channel and moving successful programmes on BBC2 to BBC1 just proves this division. It should be left where it is.
Let's put it this way there have been many programmes that have switched between the 2 BBC channels over the last (almost) 40 years. One of the biggest example of switching from BBC2 to BBC1 was Match of the Day, whilst the other way (most recently) was Top Of The Pops (also didn't TOTP2 make its debut on BBC1 when it shown shown either before or after Due South on Saturday early evenings!!)

Because BBC2 is being weakened as a channel, this helps BBC1 but how does it help BBC2. Each channel should have its signature shows that define them, how can BBC2 have a strong identity when its best shows are constantly moving to BBC1? 'The Apprentice' and 'Who Do You Think You Are?' have gone, if they lose Top Gear as well they're screwed!!

BBC TWO should never lose Top Gear; I would class it very much a 'signature show' as you put, and I honestly don't think it would fit in with BBC ONE's programming in a similar slot.
This is why the only time you'll ever see it on the other channel is as a repeated, signed programme in the late hours.

But the BBC as a whole does better out of it. BBC2 will get more new programmes, it along with 3 and 4, should be the channels that take on and develop new ideas and then pass them up to 1. There's another apprentice just round the corner
