Techy Peep have said there IS a BBC2 clock, but chances are it will never get shown, as they don't really have a reason to.

So who's right? Surely not a mistake, Mr Hicks? Smile

im presuming theres no clock as:

although bbc two england only used the 97-01 clock during wimbledon - i was lead to belive bbc two northern ireland used it at closedown on occasions

so either:
- they havent made it yet
- there are strict orders not to use it for closedown
- there isnt going to be one

maybe they were in such a rush - so they decided to wait until the second lot of idents are introduced

who knows?

If there is a clocks, it's gonna be yellow innit. Maybe it will be based on Fish or something with bubbles passing it. I doubt the effort will be made for a new clock as it will never be used. The 1997-2001 BBC TWO Clock was used about once in 2000 & once in 2001 and only because the national news had been switched to BBC TWO. The clcok was not as rare in 1997-1999 where u could occasionally see it before the closedown ident at weekends and at Christmas when the Learnign Zone was not on at all!

I wouldn't say no to seeing the BBC Family Clock (available just in case of a major event when more than one BBC channel would join up.)

In those days it would be wierd if the clock DIDN'T show up for closedown Very Happy

Notice that most websites who have full versions of the old 2 idents are captured off the closedowns of the early-mid 90shttp://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I'm still convinced we'll never see a BBC2 clock again, and the BBC1 clock will disappear probably as well when the new idents launch.

The only showings we've had on network BBC2 over the past two years were all unscheduled, and BBC1 clock showings were reduced a couple of years ago and is now only seen at 1.00, 6.00 and 10.00 weekdays, and 10.00 Sundays. Other daytime, weekend and holiday news bulletins use an ident. This seems a clear indication to me that clocks are on the way out, I'm afraid.

Why can't something like this happen to get all the transmitions into sync

REAL TIME - 12.00
BBC FILM SHOWS AT - 11.59.45
TRANSMITTION TO SKY - 11.59.53 (allowing for 7 sec delay)
TRANSMITTION TO CABLE - 11.59.56
TRANSMITTION TO ITVd - 11.59.57

Or whatever. seems perfectly sensible to me.

It sounds easy - but I'm sure that would be a logistical nightmare; and it's virtually impossible to determine the exact length of delay for each service.

Well,

Mr Techy Peep informed me a while back and that there IS a BBC 2 Clock although he has said chances of it being used are slim.

Ahh.. memories! Setting the video up to tape the closedown to get a full version of a BBC 2 ident.. Whenever it was Optic, I'd hope it'd actually show it all the way to the end where it starts actually looking like a '2', but it never quite made it. One of the ones I do have on tape, though, is of Steam going all the way to the very end, the drops of water stop going down and suddenly the music just cuts off, no fade out or anything. I remember a lot of the time they used to fade out the vision and then keep the sound going a little while longer on some of the idents.

Anyway, the 91-97 period, the green clock appeared quite often, almost as much as the BBC 1 clock. I think they even used it (for the first few years, at least) for the afternoon news at 3:55.

Mr Williams is right - a logistical nightmare!
As an example, the boys & girls in BBC World Presentation suite have a mare of a time coping with just two streams (world & europe), so 5 as you suggest would be unworkable for anyone.

And yes, how do you determine the delay on DTT? Depending how your transmitter receives its signal, there may be an added delay while it de-mux's the incoming signal and re-mux's it for re-transmission
