Do they not have a "programme continues in sound only" graphic these days? Although it's the first time in a long time that I've seen a fault like that.

NI did briefly show a “Temporary Fault” caption - same style as the breakdown slide, before switching to the one shown in the video above. So someone was slightly more on the ball than Network

What did Scotland do since there were running behide by 20min?
Quick question that I couldn't find the answer too. What happens before Newsnight? Do they just play out a regular ident because none of these are news-y enough.
Or what happens (god-forbid) if a Queen Mother style incident happens where it interrupts both channels?
Yep. The "Window On The World" era for BBC Two started in 2007. In all that time, we've had only TWO original Christmas idents (2007 and 2011 respectively). It's poor to say the least. The annoying thing is that there is so much potential for them to be able to do a good new Christmas ident. But sadly, BBC Two's presentation has been all over the place in the last 10 years.

Yes - and I would've thought NI's slide + programme audio was the more appropriate breakdown procedure in this case. Caption + silence = viewer losing out.
I'd rather that they reused one Christmas package rather than a mish-mash of everything. Both 2007 & 2011 were very strong packages. The 2005 ident was simple and lovely also.
Looks like Silk is not the only current ident to have been kept during the Christmas period. Optics was shown just before Snowfall.
This highlights an obvious snag with both the early introduction and nature of their current Christmas presentation package. They simply don't have any "news-safe" Christmas idents. The soundtracks are (correctly) deemed too light-hearted to introduce serious programming. And as we're still 3 weeks away from Christmas, there are quite a few current affairs shows and documentaries still to be aired on the channel before the end of this year.
Whereas most of BBC One's packages since 2008 have included news-safe variants.
