Pity they couldn't have gone to a filling announcer. David Allan was brilliant at stepping in when situations required. But today, you can't help wondering if today's annos are just Marketing poodles who follow stringent procedures to the letter rather than show any initiative.

Was it really neccessary during these breakdowns for the announcer to remind us every ten seconds what is happening?
Yes, they do need to remind us - but it's not just goldfish that watch athletics!
P.S. The current state of British Athletics (and World Athletics for that matter) has meant that IMO the storm tonight is certainly the highlight so far!
P.P.S. Talking of Athletics, they've dumped the familiar International Athletics theme tune. It wasn't used for the London Grand Prix and isn't being used this week. Generally it's used for all BBC athletics coverage except for the Olympics!

Don't think nobody mentioned this but there was a fault before the 6pm news on BBC1. The 3 channel promotion thing they do telling what was next stayed on longer than normal and believed was a complete version of music. The screen went blank for what felt like 20 seconds or so and then jumped straight into a Thursday preview of BBC2 programmes.

The channel menu definately played to a finish. By the time I got the video started, we were in a BBC2 comedy trail. This froze on the final frame with Capoeira audio playing over the top. Once Plymouth came in with its ident, everything was back to normal.

Well, it could be argued that some of the younger viewers who expect constant movement and no breakdowns, and who are more likely to cycle through channels looking for anything to take their attention, might find a still caption with music a bit confusing. Still, it is a bit over the top.

Are the announcers still 'live' on BBC1 and BBC2?
