I don't think there's any other superlatives that haven't already been used! It's a hugely impressive ident, just so nice to see something that 'just looks good' on-screen. The possibilities are endless, just brilliant.

I'd be interested to know who was behind it too.

Channel 4 could adapt a new ident set where real life scenes/events (normal and quirky) were taking place but one of the C4 blocks (in one of the block colours) was in the picture somehow or was the focal point of the event happening. It would look much better (and can be expanded on) than the 'block man' constantly playing football and running down the road repeatedly.

I'd love to see one of the blocks in place of a building while a tracking shot down London from a high shot goes down

I think many of us said C4 should have concentrated on the animated block idents rather than the filmed once, something they do use sparingly (though the fantastic clock seems to have gone now) and could easily add too.

Instead they've had two sets of idents with very few variations, generally just using the same couple (and brief cuts of them) and frankly just nowhere near the standard of their previous set. Granted, C4 isn't in the mess presentation wise BBC2 was before this revamp, or BBC1 is now, but I do think they need another full revamp to move on.

I think the best idents Channel 4 has had in the last few years have been the optical illusion ones. Expensive but there were also some cheaper ones in the set and the possibilities were endless.

The Channel 4 blocks man is good but they're expensive and not that adaptable. There always needs to be some humourous finish that you won't always get to see due to length of junctions. And don't get me started on that surreal nonsense that they ditched fairly quickly.

The 2 curve shows that a simple logo that can be manipulated makes for a great ident.

Hopefully a promotional opportunity for some new upcoming idents as well as a discussion about the existing ones.

The unique element of this is the melding of trailers and idents together, the whole channel just flows now, perhaps for the first time I can recall on a mainstream service. Bonkers concept in theory but it works.

Reminds me of Christmas BBC1 and BBC2 In 1987 & 1988 the trailers ended on the Christmas ident so they could go straight into continuity announcements. Was impressed by it back then and I’m surprised that it hasn’t been been done again until now on BBC2. Really makes the visual flow of the channel look great alongside the curve being in a fixed position. Really like the fades from trailers fo idents of different styles and you see the curve take on another look. Lovely stuff.

As I said in response to that original comment at the time, ITV did exactly that following their 2013 rebrand.

I completely forgot about that.

ITV’s went one step further by having unique wipes back to the channel logo if promoting a different channel’s content. It all worked so lovely and smoothly until ITV2 rebranded and didn’t add a similar transition in. With ITV I thought they missed a trick by not having a transition into the idents, though the ITV Choice versions were made in that way.

I read somewhere recently that that was done for technical rather than aesthetic reasons. It was early days of the Xmas symbols not being models (and the regular ones were electronic) so it just reduced the need for a seperate VT machine for the symbol
cylon6, Spencer and Steve in Pudsey gave kudos

If the BBC were to have a full on revamp, do you think that the 'Curves' would survive it, like the '2's' did in 1997?
It would be easy to just replace the logo at the bottom of the screen, like they did in 1997, so yes, BBC Two probably would keep it's current idents. BBC One and Four would both get new ones though.
