BBC Two 2018 Revamp

Just finished watching that Superunion chat on Instagram. Fascinating seeing the development process of the idents and test footage. Had no idea that the fluffy Offbeat one was completely CGI, honestly thought they used a physical model at one point. They said that 8 more idents are on the way and gave a sneak peak of one called Maverick. It's a bit like a pinball machine/game with a metal ball. I grabbed a picture. It's much better than I described it and looks much more impressive when seen.

Maverick is very ITV 2.

Looks like the whole talk is on Superunion's Instagram stories, go to two minutes before the end. The ident isn't fully complete but the 17 seconds they showed are great It's a really fun ident. I like it and suspect those in continuity will like it a lot and use it a lot!

I look forward to seeing these upcoming idents. I did wonder whether 'Sparky' was an indication of some new idents or whether it was just a random one to pass the time. I guess we now know!

I'd be quite happy to see a few new ones added each year to this set. They only get boring when the same handful are used over and over again during the day.

They said in the talk that their idea was that no two junctions should be the same, yet sometimes they are on BBC2. 20 idents should mean variety not just with links but trailers too as they keep using the same 4 or 5 idents for the trailers. Whoever decided to change the 9pm documentary trailer from using Charged to using Bold a gold star to them!

I don't really see much of 'Gritty' (my personal favourite from the curve set) in use as an actual ident these days. Though knowing my luck it's probably shown when I am not watching BBC Two...

More BBC2 idents would be nice but would rather they get them working on something new for BBC1 instead.

Wouldn’t we all! From the circle idents to the dross BBC1 has now!

Turns up more often than the black and white spiral, sadly.

Just goes to show doesn't it? Not all changes suck.

I'm bringing this up because after several months I've realised this endboard isn't static! It has a subtle animation.
