It reminds me of the early 1990s BBC Radio 2 logo, where we only saw some of it, but we could still picture the whole shape of the 2. It'll be interesting to see if they may use some of the new idents at certain times of the day.
They've probably made a "serious" one for Newsnight.
But yeah, that idea sounds good. Who knows how many they could make.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the range.
Speaking of rebrands, do you think CBeebies and BBC Four will rebranded in the future? Since BBC One, BBC Two and CBBC have all been rebranded as of Thursday, it's time for those two to be rebranded.
CBBC had a rebrand only relatively recently
As for BBC Four and CBeebies: I think some tweaks will do the job
I will miss the '2' symbol, though - it's represented BBC Two for almost three decades, and I can't help wondering if they might have done well to have produced some new twists on the big 2 - Artsnight immediately springs to mind, or how about this rebrand pitch from around 2011? You wouldn't see, say, BMW or Mercedes-Benz doing away with either of their marques, or McDonald's removing the golden arches from their restaurants. Though, as others have suggested, maybe we'll see the big 2 make a glorious return in a few years' time - after all, who knows what the future holds?
Not seen those before.
I do think the time is right (and overdue) to say bye to the 2 - their struggles over the last decade to evolve it and ultimately giving up suggested they'd done everything they could with it, and they were also struggling to work it into other presentational elements. This 2 may be 26 years old but every other version of their logo lasted just a few years, so a new interpretation for a new era will hopefully bring life to what has become a tired old channel presentation wise.
It's a shame the iconic '2' is going. It's all I've known during 27 of the 28 years of my lifetime so it's going to be sad to see it go.
The only slight concern I have is that it's the channels intentions to use this rebrand to give the channel a younger image given that the average current BBC Two viewer is in their 60's.
Is that not due to the programming rather than the branding?! Autumnwatch, Newsnight, Eggheads etc. being the staples of the channels schedule just shows exactly why a much older audience watches BBC Two nowadays. I couldn't really tell you the last time I properly watched the channel myself.
They missed a trick in not making BBC Two the comedy channel again with the loss of BBC Three. Cuckoo and other upstart comedies would do well with a comedy segment returning to BBC Two. It would give the channel it's identity and sense of purpose back, and would certainly bring down the average viewer age as well.
Given the recent Newsnight discussion here I do think they should have opened up 10-11pm for more BBC3 type content, whilst early peak was handed over to the old folk a long time ago. Airing BBC News content rather than CBeebies in the morning has surely upped the average age quite significantly over the last decade too.
Generally speaking though I think BBC2 has a pretty decent mix of programming in primetime.

To be fair, that’s exactly what Alan Yentob might have said in 1990 with the TWO logo. When the 2s launched, even with the exact same programming, the perception changed pretty much overnight from its “dull” and “worthy” previous self.
