I wouldn't say the problem with BBC Two's look was that it was "tired". It was the fact that it was a downright mess. Nothing was consistent and 2017 elements were being used with elements from 1991. Any concept that'll finally make look BBC Two tidy will get a tick from me.

My only qualm is the '2' being dropped. Like Channel 4 and MTV, it's hard to picture that channel being identified by any other symbol. Then again, if they want to spruce up the channel's image, it's what they need to do.

A snow drift in that curved shape?

Wow, the idents write themselves!

I'd like that for a Christmas ident. Maybe they could add some others to the mix for Xmas.
Like a curve-shaped Christmas tree or a curve-shaped Christmas pudding with the flames surrounding it.
Endless possibilities Wink

How about a curved snowman who eventually topples over or crumbles... or is that too Channel 4?

The idents and presentation package has been created by an agency with a big history with the BBC. That agency has evolved over the past 25 years.

Double figure launch idents.

It’s *very* good. Knocks BBC One out of the park.

About time t(w)o.
Good on the BBC for replicating the Channel 4 trick, for not using the whole logo, just a part if it. Keeps a nice link back to previous whilst moving the 'brand' on.

Should be almost unlimitless in execution and variations as well.

Looking forward to the Christmas idents.

Surely not the great Lambie-Nairn?

This seems to suggest that Lambie-Nairn (now called Superunion) are involved, though worth remembering that Martin himself is no longer part of the company.

I'm pleasantly surprised if an outside agency are involved. I would have expected this to be in-house.

It reminds me of the early 1990s BBC Radio 2 logo, where we only saw some of it, but we could still picture the whole shape of the 2. It'll be interesting to see if they may use some of the new idents at certain times of the day.

They've probably made a "serious" one for Newsnight.
But yeah, that idea sounds good. Who knows how many they could make.

The 90s idents were fantastic: in my opinion, they were some of the best idents I have ever seen of any channel, anywhere. That being said, I do think it's time for them to go. To my knowledge, no other channel in the world uses idents that are 20 to 30 years old on a permanent basis.

I will miss the '2' symbol, though - it's represented BBC Two for almost three decades, and I can't help wondering if they might have done well to have produced some new twists on the big 2 - Artsnight immediately springs to mind, or how about this rebrand pitch from around 2011? You wouldn't see, say, BMW or Mercedes-Benz doing away with either of their marques, or McDonald's removing the golden arches from their restaurants. Though, as others have suggested, maybe we'll see the big 2 make a glorious return in a few years' time - after all, who knows what the future holds?

Saying all that, however, what little of the rebrand we've seen so far seems promising - and, of course, it's always better to hold back judgement until we've seen the whole thing. I look forward to seeing what's in store from Thursday onwards. I wonder if we will see something like BBC Four's reactive first set of idents? And if nothing else, I'll be glad to finally see the back of those vile endboards...

The ones we've seen are hardly lighthearted!
