Maybe essentially a left/right split-screen, but with some suggestion of the diagonal part of a serif '1' incorporated in the top of whatever occupies the left half?
Frankly, I would consider idents depicting e.g. someone smearing either "one" or "1" on a prison cell wall using their own excrement during a dirty protest to be less of a branding abomination than sodding Crapness (whoops, I mean One-ness. No, I was right the first time).

Why not have, like, the split screen with different scenes on each side before the whole scene comes together as one whole scene, revealing the 1 on screen?
Or is that too much like France 2 in 2009?
Any kind of split screen concept would be linked to BBC Two by the fact you have two elements side by side. I think whatever BBC One moves to, it should stand out as entirely different to BBC Two's concept of the screen split in two by way of a curve.

Yeah, BBC One is more of a general entertainment channel. So it should have something that fits well with the concept of the channel.
I'd keep the red but add warmer colours like orange to the palette.
I like the fact that the rebrand to two has kept away from using a single palette of colours and I think BBC One could learn from that. I’d like to see them link with BBC Two in styling their logo similar at the bottom Centre with both channels adjusting to Reith and the idents carrying themselves but saying BBC One in their appearance.
I think BBC One should just do its own thing, but with the logo in the same place to tie it in.
I had an idea for BBC One to produce a set of abstract idents based around famous quotes. For instance, Roald Dahl's "Those who don't believe in magic will never find it" could precede a sparkly, magical affair.

In other news, the industrial blocks type ident was used for a network trailer on Grenfell. Until then it was just seen on a BBC2 Scotland trailer for a documentary on apartheid.
Just caught a junction featuring that - my god, doesn't BBC One's current presentation jumble look utterly embarrassing when placed next to that gorgeously slick animation.
I still think overall the '2' is the better iconic ident but the implementation of a fixed curve is superb. Trailers and idents all flow into each other and is actually better visually than other channels with their idents and endboards. BBC1 is really being shown up by BBC2 now.

Bring back the 1991-1997 stylised figure of '1' (but in entirely newly-created idents and pres)!!!
BBC1 really missed a trick by not using that '1'. It was the BBC1 logo more than the globe in trailers and Christmas pres from 1992 onwards. Could have sat alongside the '2' very nicely.
I think there is currently only one channel in the entire United Kingdom whose presentation does not show up BBC One current package.... Sheffield Live.

I'm surprised the BBC idents haven't been more creative with the BBC boxes.
Having the BBC boxes static all the time is so boring. I'd have them interact with the environment or give each one personality
