Time for my 2p worth - I have not seen this thread since the night before rebrand and so have been reading backwards. Hardly post on these days but it is good to revisit once in a while.
Very much a departure to what we have been used to over the last however many years the "2" has been in full view, the new approach taken seems to very more subtle and listening to the soundtrack these wouldn't look out of place on BBC4. It's fresh and like with everything that is a rapid departure from its previous ilk, it will take time to bed in. The visual identities I have seen in some of the pre-rebrand material have existed since the 90s.
It's pure conjecture on my part...but perhaps it is intentional, to have a closer alignment with BBC4? Along the lines of R2 and 6 Music!?

And Revelatory isn't done justice unless watched in HD. It really does make a difference.
Revelatory really does tax the bitrates, even in full HD.
I've seen it before through an iPlayer stream and the picture quality just tanked.
I'm going to break with consensus here and say while I think the concept is good, the execution is lacking a little for me in one or two, particularly the seemingly arbitrary colour changes in Feel Good; the rapid reversal-to-initial-image-to-force-a-resolution technique used in Escapist, the snake one, and Revelatory; and how the Tribble's feet suddenly appear and disappear. The simplest ones work the best - I particularly like the grey mechanical one, the animated one and the flippy pages one, which, along with the single note theme song, are a nod to the channel's recent heritage.

I'm gonna say that Revelatory is probably the "worst" one. It looks awful if not viewed in HD and it just seems like a random movement of the shapes rather than a flowing animation. I'm also not a fan of the few idents that "snap back" to the start quickly for seemingly no reason. The one that has what sound like zip sound effects on it is the main culprit for this.'Zip' and Revelatory also have the 'same thing' on both sides of the curve, whereas the majority of the idents have "opposites" on either side, so they don't look quite right in comparison. I know that Reflective and Escapist don't either but the rest of ident looks good so it works. I think with Reflective it doesn't. I also think Feel Good may look better if it didn't end on pink and orange at the end and perhaps one side just changed colours and the other stayed multi-coloured.

Just finally having the time to update the Gallery, and whilst checking through the 'This Is BBC Two' overnight filler, the odd frame of the previous idents still appear. Obviously a 'cut and paste' job overlaying the new on the old - somewhat in the way the new presentation has been added to the old schedule
