I think the ident we now know is named 'Offbeat' is quite poor and is completely dissimilar from the others. To me, it seems like one team came up with the other fifteen idents and one bloke went out on a limb and made 'Offbeat' and then slipped it in to the overall package.

On the whole, though, I really like the new idents, and I love the subtlety and the consistency of all of them having the '2 curve' down the middle.

Awww, I like that furry creature!
He's pretty cute and a nice, yet somewhat bizarre successor to the fluffy 2

Liked the continuity just now before Live at the Apollo with the orange furry two...

I'd argue swimming hippos were out of place next to motorbikes and apartment windows, but the hippos were probably one of, if not the most memorable of the Circle idents on BBC One.

True, you can’t. But we know the introduction of the 2s helped shed the channel’s dull and worthy reputation amongst the public and boosted viewing figures.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the new idents and presentation have a beneficial effect on public perception of the channel and possibly even audience in a similar way.

Indeed

Although didn’t British Airways lose passengers as a result of their poorly received ‘colourful’ tail fin branding ?

No, this story is often overdone!

The tail fins were one element of a wider re-brand, most of which survives to this day. Indeed, the tail fin now used across the fleet is one of the much-criticised 'ethic tail fins'.

The re-brand coincided with accelerated growth in passenger numbers, and probably wouldn't have got nearly the coverage it did without the tail fin controversy. At a time when no-one was quite sure what BA's USP was any more, criticism from the press (and Thatcher) did a huge amount to reinforce that BA was a 'premium British' brand.

Indeed, BA later strategically timed announcements about future tail finds (standardising on the 'Chatham Dockyard' design for all future aircraft, and later rolling this out to all aircraft) as deliberate spoilers for other airlines' announcements, knowing that they'd attract acres of further press coverage and editorial comment.

Is it me or are idents such as the black and white striped one and so on are gonna be less common unlike the other idents they've played?

Theses are the two idents still waiting to appear. ( another new one appeared this morning) which were included on the showreel.

If there is 16 and 11 have popped up and we included these other unused ones, then 2 still waiting to be made?

It looks like this one was broadcast for the the first time after midnight: https://tvhome.co.uk/bbc-two/2018/09/30/0035

I imagine it'll be reserved for horror/thriller and related programmes.

We might get to see it again at 21.30? If not it will be like 1-2 a month then.
