Technically they are absolutely beautiful videos - very creative and stylish and look stunning in HD - but they could be slapped on any channel. What is so BBC TWO about them? Nothing.

Any channel which is associated with the number 2, yes... though they're a bit too smart for ITV2

I don't think the 1991 set had any specific meaning, but they were supposed to convey a mood or theme that would be appropriate for the upcoming programme. This set are doing the same thing - different idents for different moods.

Yes, there was nothing that specifically linked the old '2' logo to BBC Two. It was the styles and designs it appeared in that represented the channel and it's variety of programmes.

That was what changed the audiences opinion of the channel from being stuffy to quirky

Is anyone else picking up a slight BBC Four-esque type of vibe with these idents and possibly the whole package?

Looks like there are stings too. NI aired a short version of the white lines ident at the beginning of the 1.30pm junction.

I may be showing my age here, but surely there is no ambiguity, there is only one TV channel that would be abbreviated to "Two", partly because until about 25 years ago, it was the only channel with "Two" in its name, and secondly because its on-screen branding was either ==2== or TWO or the Lambie-Nairn 2s with no BBC branding for a very long time.

I can't get excited about that slide. The backgrounds made the old slides. Yes it's laid out better, but the background is very non-descript and the logo on that image looks as awkward as it did in the box.

Also not really fair to talk about the inconsistency of the old look compared to a single slide in the new look. They haven't had time to be inconsistent yet but it doesn't mean it won't happen.

That could be true but the whole reason the previous branding was so inconsistent was because it was a mess of different packages all thrown into one, and nobody really knew what they were doing thanks to that.

It's totally BBC Four. Like BBC Four's first package.

Theses are the two idents still waiting to appear. ( another new one appeared this morning) which were included on the showreel.

If there is 16 and 11 have popped up and we included these other unused ones, then 2 still waiting to be made?

Yep, hence the assertion that 'they could be slapped on any channel' is a nonsense

Here's some of the "official" names. (Note, these are as they appear in the presentation schedule, but they may be known differently elsewhere)

*
"Escapist"

*
"Celebratory"

*
"Feel Good"

*
"Captivating"

*
"Reflective"

*
"Revelatory"

*
"Offbeat"

*
"Wonder"

I'll try and get some more tomorrow, but it's really dependent on me looking up at the right time, and I have annoying button pressing to do in the meantime Laughing

Very suitable names.
I also see a thing with these idents as they seem to pop up before a certain type of programme.
Like "Reflective" for example comes on before newsy programmes like Victoria Derbyshire and Newsnight

Did anyone catch a recording of the brown/pins ident last night? It was shown again this morning at 10am, but I think it's first airing (ignoring the overnight barker) was around the 11.35pm junction last night across most of the nations. I say 'around' as the channel were running about 3 minutes later than the published schedule, which wasn't quite enough for the padding I leave on the recordings at that time of night (and I suspect Asa's automated recordings missed it for the same reason).

Also noticed a brief flash of the generic BBC blocks holding slide slip out on BBC Two Northern Ireland in the 16.55 junction today! Very Happy

Some of them do sound like team names from The Apprentice Shocked
