New ident ‘Discovery’ - p89

Given that BBC 2 Northern Ireland and Wales are currently basically the same as BBC 2 Network at the moment, with network continuity, with just occasional regional opt-outs, there is rather strange regional variation on BBC 2 Northern Ireland tomorrow (unless it's an error in the listings).

BBC 2 is showing John Le Mesurier: It's All Been Rather Lovely at 6:45pm and Dad's Army at 7:45pm

BBC 2 Northern Ireland is showing a repeat of Home Ground at 6:45pm and the John Le Mesurier programme at 7:15pm.

The strange regional variation would BBC2 NI actually showing Dad's Army as they usually use it's time slot to broadcast their programmes .

As to why they put their programme at 645 they do have a habit of moving "network" programmes

The last time BBC 2 Northern Ireland had a regional variation in a similar slot was the 14th March.

Dad's Army has been shown in a number of Saturday evening slots since then, with no regional variations.

Seems very odd for there to be this opt-out tomorrow, especially for a repeat.

You seem to be forgetting that BBC2 NI was basically shut down from late March to late April and was carrying BBC2 Network during that time .

BBC Two Wales and Northern Ireland are both back ‘on air’ in the evenings now.

I wasn't forgetting that. I was fully aware of that, and wasn't aware that BBC Two Northern Ireland and Wales had returned in the evenings.

Really ? And it's irrelevant whether you knew they were back .

Given that your response to me saying that BBC2 NI basically never shows Dad's Army your response was

So according to broadcast masters, the first eleven idents from the 1991-2001 set were completed on November 16th, 1990, as seen in this video of Copper Cut Out (B&W), courtesy of TV2Record1, who possesses all those original copies. Note the soundtrack's the second, more refined version, as opposed to the much weaker early version.

I expect the broadcast masters got their soundtracks updated? I know Lambie-Nairn/Superunion holds the early soundtrack versions, as shown when they uploaded the '91 idents on their YouTube channel back in 2010.

What a great find!

The 1991-2001 2 idents haven't been equalled....until the Curve era arrived. Next year will be the 30th anniversary of Lambie-Nairn BBC2 rebrand.

WOW! Shocked

I didn't know they left.

Just heard Duncan recording his lines for the Sign Zone during There She Goes (there were a couple of retakes too!). Must have left the mic up.
