Every time a fantastic new BBC Two ident is aired for the first time, the joy is ever-so-slightly dampened by the fact that presentation on BBC One continues to be lazily mediocre.

Agreed and yet they gave Kayakers a His Dark Materials tweak and it makes it look so much better.

I would be willing to go the whole of 2020 with no new BBC2 idents though if they gave BBC1 a similarly successful relaunch.

Just by adding something extra they could come alive. They've done with Kayakers what they did with later balloon globes. Shot some film then added something digitally afterwards. The film itself is dull but add the balloon and it came alive. Kayakers is the first Oneness ident that I truly like....and yet it still can't hold a candle to what BBC2 is doing.

Wales viewers got a marginally longer playout of it, despite being one of the usual junctions using the exact same script as network. Northern Ireland didn't show it at all in this junction (although they did use their own script).
