Is it true that some members of the "community" considered "if this is your thing" an insult before the 01-07 tribute? I think TV Ark had it noted next to the clip on their website. Talk about overreacting!

Yes, there was a bit of a nasty reaction to that entirely harmless line.
Anyway, my feeling about this news is the same as most, I think - while it's a shame to see the end of that classic '2' which was so exciting when it launched nearly 28 years ago, it's good to see the channel getting a bit of love again and what we've seen so far looks really promising.
Have to agree with whoever said it reminds them of this, though...

It’s great to see BBC Two finally getting the rebrand it needs. The idents based on the ‘2’ are effective, but they certainly show their age.
From what we’ve seen so far, the rebrand looks vibrant and fresh, but without going too far as to put off the older audience.

To be fair, all of the BBC national radio stations has a similar 'partial numeral' style during 1991-1995. It wasn't specific to Radio 2, although 'less partial' for Radios 1 & 4.
