I'm pretty sure 1603 predates that logo.
While searching for idents on Sky Q, there is an unaired BBC ident titled "BBC Event Safe 1", which has the BBC logo in gold in front of a purple silk background. This might be a generic ident for when Queen Elizbeth dies.
I'm pretty sure 1603 predates that logo.

Interesting to note that with the 'big 2' having been around for 27 years, that's half the time that BBC2 has been on air.

CBBC had a rebrand only relatively recently
As for BBC Four and CBeebies: I think some tweaks will do the job
BBC Four has been constantly introducing new bits over the last few years, it's always 'tweaking' it's look.
As I've pointed out before, a full rebrand of Cbeebies is unlikely as the current branding and studio look are used in things like the bedtime stories and songs which are constantly repeated. Something that the channel does more than the others because of who watches.
The budget probably isn't there to update everything, and what they have is perfectly good already.... and has also been 'tweaked' often
Speaking of rebrands, do you think CBeebies and BBC Four will rebranded in the future? Since BBC One, BBC Two and CBBC have all been rebranded as of Thursday, it's time for those two to be rebranded.

I see even the Daily Mail has used the "first full rebrand in 25 years" headline - hats off, that's a bit of a masterstroke.
I'll always have a massive soft spot for the 2 as the initial run is what sparked my curiosity in branding and graphic design and the meticulous, highly themed audio work remains unparalleled in my opinion.
I suspect audiences will miss retro fluffy 2, etc., and it's a shame the Artsnight direction turned out to be an encore rather than a modern take to be explored further. However, after a quarter of a century, it's time for the channel to lead and inspire once again...
Here's hoping anyway.

Yep, I always thought it looked naff and cheap. Some of them had been through two different video conversions - from 4:3 to 16:9 and then to HD (maybe three, I'm not sure what they were originally mastered onto). They looked pretty sh*tty compared with all the nice crisp native HD produced stuff being used elsewhere
For me: great news
It should have happened earlier: I never fully appreciated them bringing back 10 years old idents

I have to say, based on the stills I quite like it. Will be interesting to see how it all comes together on screen.
Surprised they are keeping the credit squeeze menus as Gill, and the channel name as Avenir. Why not get Reith out there as much as they can? The menu will be Reith sometime in the future anyway when One and Four get new looks, so why wait until the last of them goes? Get the consistency started now.
I can only imagine now how the Christmas idents will look based around that concept, and I think with the right soundtrack they could look fantastic. At least there'll be no more of that dreaded carol singing nonsense.

As well as being the first full rebrand in over 25 years, this will also be just the 2nd time in its 54 year history that BBC 2 won't have a "2" as its identity (the first time being the "TWO" era from 1986-1991), so in that respect, it's a shame to see the current look disappear.
I know the new look features part of a 2, but it won't be the same.

They aren’t going to change the logotype since the channel brands are the only part of the BBC’s branding where they will have a bespoke look, even with Reith
