BBC2 1991 idents - made in widescreen?

I can't see the Balloon coming back though sadly, even though it remains one of my favourite presentation packages ever. The Balloon itself has been retired I believe, ISTR it making it's last flight somewhere. That would make filming new idents difficult - though of course they could always commission a replica.


The balloon is stored in Bristol and could be used, it's just in storage, you never know. I always thought the balloon could merge well with the BBC One circles theme (as many others thought too, I'm sure).

A lot of the idents used a CG balloon anyway.

the 1999 top-up idents did certainly. The 1997 originals were all real.

Didn't the balloon do a tour of the regions at one point?

I remember BBC Birmingham having the balloon one day & they actually did a live ident at 630 that evening!

(The balloon was stationary on the ground & they did a shot above it ISTR & overlayed the standard BBC ONE Midlands caption over it!)

I think Shefali did the weather from it too.
