Doing a course in A - level media in college and was wonderning what everyone's opinion was of both bbc1 and itv1, and which channel you prefer and why? personally itv1 has to be my best, due to the great drama they have on at the moment, i can't remember the last time i watched a programme on bbc1. POOR REGIONAL IDENTS v A tiny little bit better

Overall
BBC ONE - 2/10
ITV1 (Excluding the UTV region) - 8/10
ITV1 (including UTV) - 6/10
(P.S. - This are my views so take them at face value and not to heart)
...but ITV1 and BBC1 are also as good as each other. They both provide excellent news coverage (I prefer ITV), the BBC have better comedy, but ITV have better drama, they both provide some excellent entertainment (again I prefer ITV) and despite what other people think, I'm fairly happy with the services they provide.

Same here, just started doing AS Media Studies the other week and so far I am enjoying, though we were given a rather easy task of comparing the BBC One idents and the ITV1 idents, but we had to anaylise them and everyone came out with the same answers. But my teacher must have got the pictures from The TV Room as she read out all the details into the relaunch and even mentioned the break flash, which doesn't get aired North of Birmingham. But one person was shocked at the fact that there was a Dec only ident, minus Ant, but I assume he appears later in the ident.
But for me I seem to watch more ITV1, this is IMO...
BBC One, North West Tonight, My Family, Only Fools and Horses, Football, sometimes Neighbours and that's it.
ITV1, Coronation Street, News and Weather overall, Football, The Sketch Show, 2DTV, Baddiel and Skinner, frankly anything worth watching when it is on.
I watch more BBC1 than ITV1 but I don't have a problem with watching either. If I think ITV1 will have a good drama on I'd watch it, although I tend to only watch one-off drama's on the network but thats more because I don't wanna get in to any other long running series.
The only think on ITV I can't stand is the news, and perhaps comedies.

You're not going to get very far in Media Studies with a vague question like that!
It's the BBC for me. Raised on a diet of almost exclusively BBC programming and see no need to change this....
My fave channel is ITV for the same reasons as Katherine has given for the BBC - at home we always watched progs on ITV and I remember seeing HTV News and some of the well known HTV prsenters etc when I was very young.
The only programme I regularly watch on the BBC at the moment is Neighbours, I cant honestly say I watch another programme on there.
I like ITV as most of my fave progs on there like my fave soap Coronation Street which ive watched since I was 5 years old (im 22 now) and also Emmerdale, The Bill, Bad Girls, Sweet Medicine to name a few of my fave shows. I alsop like the drama series ITV do, I feel they have always been really excellent at making drama.
I also like the ITV News and most of the presenters, if there is a major event I almost always have the news on ITV or the ITV News Channel, same for the final of the World Cup etc I would watch it on ITV1
I also really like the new idents, they are better BBC ones which are so annoying and look tacky, a shame ITV isnt so regional anymore although my region HTV Wales do try and make regional progs and I also really like my regiona news programme HTV News. I dont think the regional programme for Wales is very good on the BBC although ive very rarely seen it.
I prefer BBC1 to ITV1 for the reasons that Katherine gave about being brought up all BBC and all.
Now, unlike some people who switch onto watch a tv programme, and because the ident isn't up to their ideas of a good ident never watch that programme I don't mind what the ident is if it's a person falling from a ceiling on a red cloth or a 'celebrity' sitting down looking at a camera - I don't honestly care what ident precedes a programme!! I'm not saying the BBC1 and ITV1 idents are good or anything !!
Overall, I feel that BBC1 does excellent programming from brilliant dramas (Johnathan Creek, for example) to hilariously funny comedy shows (Dick and Dom in da Bungalow - from today!!) as well as having something for everybody (Sport, Children's Shows, News etc. etc) which are usually up to a very good standard in my opinion.
