Don't be silly, James, they never CANCEL EastEnders..

Yep, her funeral was on in the morning and the shops didn't open until 2pm. I remember watching Channel 4 upstairs, had no interest in her funeral (was a kid btw Wink )

She died on Sunday 31st August, I don't remember watch the BBC that day but I remember watching Calendar and 5 News about it. ITV had a day practically about it and I'm not suprised that the BBC had done something similar. Her funeral was on the Saturday, 6 days later (6th September).

Only taken a few weeks then for their commitment to Panorama to end!

I don't think necessarily so - there were IIRC two Panorama s last week or the week before. It has been picking up quite a bit lately, and someone even wrote into the Radio Times praising the episode Please Look After Mum . I think Panorama 's here to stay, for the moment at least.

I switched the box on to BBC1 at a few seconds to six in the morning, saw the generic BBC logo and heard "This is the BBC from London".

Not expecting anything like a royal death, my immediate thought was that we were at war and that the signal was coming from "the bunker".

It was almost a "pleasant surprise" to find out the true reason.

And there were, unbelieveably, complaints to the BBC duty office and Points Of View.

To stop the arguments - here is a sound clip from 1pm, and the revised schedules from 3pm that Sunday (31 August) - courtesy MHP :

The revised schedules listed above and left were announced at 3pm. The BBC 1 schedule was later revised again, to bring the service from St Paul's Cathedral. then to interrupt it with coverage of the coffin being brought back from Paris. "Diary of a Princess" was shown twice that evening, whilst Beethoven's Piano Concerto was cancelled so that the service interrupted earlier could be shown in full.

It was Channel 4's remit to being alternative, they instead put on aload of kids shows for those who probably didn't understand what was going on, which is fair enough. But it did annoy some people who wanted to see Channel 4 News' take on the funeral. They did also take the 2 minutes silence aswell.

Almost every channel was showing it from what I remember, most multi-channels didn't bother showing anything or they took Sky News, it was very interesting to flick through.

Put The Telly On
The day of Princess Diana's funeral I was on holiday in the Lake District. We tried to listen to the funeral via the car radio but reception was poor...(not literally obviously!).

Think we had a late Summer holiday that year - I didn't return to school until mid-September.
