A message at 5.45pm advising Strictly viewers it begins later than scheduled in ten-minutes time is far better than viewers for EVERY programme after it tuning in ten minutes into the programme.
It's always the same when programmes are rescheduled though - generally if a film or something is dropped (due to a news event for example), channels seem to replace it with anything and then either bring forward or push back the rest of the schedule - when really it would make more sense to replace it with a film (or combination of programmes) with equal running length.
Given the number of films the BBC are bound to have rights too, it can't be that difficult to have a collection of stand by films of various lengths. In reality they'd only need to cover say from 90 minutes to 2 hours, as anything longer than that could be filled with a repeat of a 30-minute sitcom or 60-minute format etc.
Despite all of this, and much to my surprise, Strictly Come Dancing was the most watched show on Saturday night with an average of 10.1 million and a peak of 11.36 million. The X Factor unopposed got 9.2 million for the first show peaking and 10.6 million, and 9.3 million for the second show peaking at 10.65 million.
I still think they should have run 10 minutes later as SCD would have led straight into Robin Hood, Robin Hood getting a headstart on TXF doesn't improve its ratings.

I still can't believe that figure for SCD!!!
Well, the schedule change didn't really affect SCD - it was all the programmes after it!
I still don't really get the popularity of SCD!
P.S. Ah - that's the reason they didn't opt for an extra performance from this week's guest - it's bloody Cliff "I'm not dead yet" Richard!

I think there are huge numbers of older viewers out there but most Saturday evening fare isn't for them. This one gets them watching. Somtimes TV tries so hard to get young hip viewers that the older viewern is pushed to one side, but when they do come out they come out in droves. That's why Doc Martin got 10 million on a Monday night, it wasn't 16-34 year olds it was massive numbers of older viewers.
Equally I don't get the popularity of The X Factor
Especially when I've just had to witness its creator waltz onto the stage of the Royal Variety Performance and crow "you've got me to thank for Paul Potts"...
