BBC1 schedule change

... stupid schedulers! (December 2007)

It's a bad idea to change a schedule to have programmes starting early at any time but even worse that it is effecting the whole schedule all night. BBC1 schedulers obviously think people stick with the channel all night so won't realise there has been a schedule change

And to add to my last post, it would have made more sense to push Strictly forward (not to mention that you could probably get away with Tom And Jerry at 5:45 more than you could at 7pm) so that everything else kept to time.

Or more 21st century, an edited edition of Just for Laughs could have been shown

They must think that if Strictly didn't start at the advertised time then people would decide to turn the TV off in disgust and not watch it at all

It's not so much an "off the shelf" option though, although 10-minute compilations of Auntie's Bloomers do exist.

Such filler programmes are kept for emergencies and standbys.. last minute stuff. I suspect that they wouldn't want to waste them on something that is predictable

I agree with the above, I don't see why they couldn't stratch out the programme by a few minutes and then maybe add a few more trails afterwards to sop up any more time

BBC2 have regularly used ten-minute cuts of programmes like Coast , What the (various) Did For Us and The Planets in pre-scheduled schedule-padding slots at 9:50pm and the like.

Considering the change wasn't made till late-Friday / early-Saturday, surely it's these situations they are there for.

It would hardly be a waste - it's the BBC. It's not as if once it's shown it can never air again!

They're more for live events that crash off air or programes that don't turn up at very short notice when its too late to change the schedule.

A day before they can, but I don't see why they needed to at all

Erm...as if we don't have to put up with enough trails already?

A few extra trails though makes much more sense than scheduling so many people miss the first ten minutes of their programme.

I think ultimately though it should have been down to Strictly, rather than BBC1, to fill the time.

What makes much more sense is to handle the situation properly in future; that is, push forward the start time of the shortened programme, so that everything else could start on time. The BBC apparently knew about this for a week or more, so that was plenty of time to find a way around the problem.

More trails (unless a billed presentation such as "Christmas on BBC1") will just drive people to flick over more than any filler such as Out-Take TV or even Tom and Jerry would.

So all the grandmas would switch on and see no programme there? Not the way to get viewers.
