I don't really care what trailers they show (usually they're for interesting programmes I would like to watch) as long as it's not that bloody CBBC one again Rolling Eyes

What I can't understand, however, is why they insist on reviving Fame Academy! What's it now, the third year it's been running? I know it's cheap to make, but surely they could find something more entertaining to put on; or at least not put it on every single night...

Lame Academy is in it's second year, not third. Eitherway, it's better than Pap Idol!

I think you may find statistically Pop Idol proves to be more popular that Fame Academy with the viewers. Even on here there are more pages being notched up for Pop Idol!

I don't care which show get more viewers than t' other. Even though I think both of these reality "talent" shows are mostly
rubbish, Lame Academy has a far better concept, where the hopefuls have their talents nurtured. As opposed to Pap Idol,
where the hopefuls get a chance to sing for about thirty seconds, before being verbally massacred by some jumped up
pillock that pulls his trousers up around his ribcage, and a (nearly) 60 year old that used to co-host The Hitman & Her!

The only good thing about Pap Idol, is Ant and Dec. Thank feck those two don't sing anymore!

Well can you blame me - this is sheer desperation on the BBC's part. And a huge gamble. What's the betting a sizeable portion of the audience switch over if they know that Fame Academy is next (quite a size too, judging by the viewing figures!)

Why, what was the switch off rate for the last few episodes then? do you have the figures for FA and the preceding programme?

Of course the problem that ITV have is that they've started their biggest programme on what has been (in some parts of the country) the hottest weekend since records began. Their figures will be down of last series too.

I think their decision to move it forward from the autumn will be regretted.

Well we get the end of the Weakest link, the "disco" ident with no VO at all and then it just cuts to Fame Academy!

Obviously pushed for time

More like a bad pres department.

Hey - carefull !!!!
I think it's more the issues of the announcers being on breaks after managements apauling decision to cut the number of live announcers on BBC1 and 2 and play mini disc annos during key parts of the day....
We all knew this would happen - and it just goes to show that Live Announcers make the channel what it is and if you want your channel to look shoddy then this is what will happen.

Quite agree - Fame Academy is going to produce a far more rounded, prepared person for the charts etc than Pop Idol, who in comparison only bring out walking jukeboxes.

Fame Academy students are also better at writing and scoring their own tunes, play their own instruments etc... David Sneddon got to number one BY HIS OWN efforts, not the efforts of someone else's hard graft and someone else's song.

Like I said Kat - yeah the Lame Academy people have released the better songs, but the BBC have NO IDEA how to do something commercial-style. We've seen this happen with their pathetic Hit 40 UK rip-off that they call the "official" chart show.

The BBC should stick to stuffy stuff and leave ITV to do what it does best.

I did catch this no gaps junctioning style in use last night. I do wonder though, were they that scared of Pop Idol?

A caption animated onto the screen at the end of the weakest link (shame to see the American style laughing from the audience has been allowed to make it over here - it ruins the tension in the programme), then was quickly faded up again during the credits, followed by an announcerless ident into Fame Academy, which directly linked into Winning Lines, and then that directly linked (without any credits or anything) straight back into Fame Academy.

From 17:35 to 20:40 it was just wall to wall programming with nothing in between.

As I said, were they that scared of Pop Idol? I'm not a fan of either, but from what I have seen FA seems by far the better programme.

This sounds like a return to the junction strategy the Beeb used to use on Saturday evenings in the House Party era. Noel would end with a name check of the next show, followed by "Keep it Beeb", and the junction into the following show would be very short - often just an ident trailling what was after the next show?

The Lottery show would also follow the same pattern - linking into the following show again.

I quite like it when the schedule is full-on entertainment - with no real light and shade.

However if you were going from a comedy into a news bulletin, or a moving drama into a light entertainment show, I think a junction helps turn the corner?

Wrong on 2 counts: firstly there will be live announcers on shift all day, just the same as now, secondly the changes to rotas haven't happened yet.
Don't believe everything you believe in the papers!!!

There would have been an announcer on shift then and they wouldn't have forgotten to turn up for the announcement, it's more likely to be finger trouble by the person with the fader
