The time cannot be far away when CBBC (and possibly CBeebies) end up becoming all-day channels, much like the likes of Nickelodeon, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, etc. Even pre-school channels on Sky run around the clock. How it'd work transmission wise to get them going 24hrs and keep BBC Three and BBC Four going in the evening is another issue.
BBC Three has had issues with pre-watershed programming for a long while, resorting to repeats of Total Wipeout, Doctor Who and other similar programming to fill the gap. The talk previously of extending CBBC to a 9pm finish and still share with BBC Three would have solved Three's pre-watershed issues programming-wise and extended CBBC's audience reach, if not by a major amount. Two birds with one stone.
Problem with rebrands is that they cost money, which is not something the BBC are going to have a lot of due to the new licence fee arrangement. By 2016/7, BBC Two will have had 6% cut in its budget, but "gains" by getting BBC Two HD to replace BBC HD. The issue is more likely to be seen, "The BBC is making cuts but somehow have found enough money to rebrand BBC x. Licence fee is clearly too high", etc. A rebrand at this point (for any BBC channel) could become a PR issue.

That would be madness - BBC3 struggles enough as it is with pre-watershed content, so giving them an extra hour at the expense of CBBC would be madness. If anything it should be the other way round - although talk of CBBC extending it's hours has gone quiet now.

I agree the future of BBC2 isn't looking great - they've all but been reduced to a 6-11.20pm channel at the moment. As for the branding - I'd agree it is more in need of it than BBC1, but to be honest I think they could get away with keeping the idents - it's the endboards etc. which look really tacky at the moment and are really at odds with the more arty idents. We only need to look back to Christmas to see how much better the channel looks without the hot pink and fluorescent yellow.
