As far as BBC1's presentation is concerned, it's good riddens to 2004 and, IMO, a relatively poor year of presentation. But what will 2005 have in store for BBC1 viewers?

Well we know that a new ident "Tumbler" will launch on Tuesday - a nice start to the year. But then again that happened last year with "Massai".

My guess this year is a one-off special ident for Comic Relief in March. Remember the one with Peter Kay in "Hip Hop" in 2003? If there is one, I think it will be Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders appearing in it.

I was also going to suggest a special ident for the Winter Olympics at
the end of the year. But come to think of it - we didn't get a special ident for the Summer Olympics last August, so I think that's well out of the question.

I'd love to hear some of your suggestions.

I thought the Winter Olympics were in January/February of 2006? i may be wrong of course but it's every four years isn't it? The last one was Salt Lake City in 2002.

Ah! It's probably me that's wrong. It happens every 4 years and I could have sworn they were last on in late 2001 rather than early 2002. I thought the main event in 2006 though was the Football World Cup in Germany.

The last winter olympics were held in early 2002 , well they were definately held in 2002. And the next ones are in 2006 as is the World Cup.

No worse than any other surely? What makes 2004 any worse than 2003 or 2002?

The "Massia" ident which debuted exactly one year ago tomorrow said it all! Totally inappropriate, and being as though it was the only ident introduced in 2004, last year was a terrible one presentation wise.

"Tango", "Tai Chi" and "Skateboarders" were much more mature idents for BBC1, and made 2003's presentation year much better than 2002's. Apart from the recycling of the "Snowflake Toddlers" Christmas ident at the end of 2003 - that was outrageous!

Is it just me or is it all the 'peaceful' and 'calm' idents that are any good as well as the original eight. Were it up to me I'd scrap Tumbler, Massai, Skateboarders, Music Video and possibly Tango and Hip Hop. I'd bring back Ballet as well.

So you don't think Skateboard is "peaceful and calm" then?

Well I suppose it is, it's just the fact that it gets so annoying after you've heard it a couple of times. One day I must have heard it about five or six times and got sick and tired of hearing it. Thankfully, as soon as I said that skateboarders became less frequent and was replaced by other decent idents.

I'm sick to death of this ident simply because BBC London insist on using it to introduce every single edition of BBC London News at 6.30pm. It's definitely not the only London-branded ident because they very occasionally use Tai Chi instead, so why on earth does it have to be those blinkin' Skateboarders the other 99% of the time?!
