This is a bizzare thing but is it just me? But I was flicking through NTL last night and went past the BBC Nations and at 12.45am NI was showing BBC News 24 for about 40 minutes, but very suprisingly Scotland at 1.05am was given the title of Intermission, this to me I thought was a programme which wasn't allowed to be transmitted on satellite, but to my suprise it was Pages from Ceefax for about 20 minutes. When I saw this it came to mind why other BBC Nations can't do this (I know it would please many on here) but I was thinking why couldn't they have joined News 24? Now I am confused as is this a decision by the Nations or were they doing a BBC2 and that they only showed Ceefax as there was no time for news, but isn't this the very easy, cheap option for BBC1 when they have to go, as I know they have shown News 24 for about 10 minutes at times, they did this in 2000 when they replayed MOTD overnight and N24 didn't come on until 5.45am. But it was probably the first time in years that I've seen Ceefax on View on BBC1 in a long time!

This screenshot from Digiguide, showing the different nations' schedules last night, will explain it better than words...

Monday

I guess Scotland thought it wasn't worth joining News 24 for half an hour, 1:05-1:35. The full text there is "Programmes start again on 28 October 2003 at 1:35." which is what normally appears on Digiguide when BBC 2 has Ceefax scheduled.

Incedentally, another look at Digiguide shows they should be doing the same at 1:10 tonight after Scottish Questions, while NI are doing 30 minutes of News 24, 1:50-2:20. Wales seem to have a longer version of the film than everyone else Confused :

And again tomorrow night:

Wednesday

Then on Thursday night it's Wales' turn to have the little gap in the schedule:

THE HUMAN MIND is missing from those listings.

What's the gap called in the listings? TiVo's listings call it SIGN OFF. In reality it'll be a slide with music.

That makes sense. NI are showing The Human Mind on Thursday night's Sign Zone. Wales are showing This Land, along with Thursday night's Panorama repeat in their own Sign Zone on Sunday night in place of the film Marlowe. And there are more variations on Sign Zone scheduling later in the week.

All very confusing but I suppose if you have Sky/NTL and you're taping them it's handy if you miss one you can catch it on another nation (once you've got your head round the schedules).

Same as the Scotland one last night and tonight:
"Programmes start again on 31 October 2003 at 2:35."
...which is what it'll display on any channel when there are no listings for it, though it depends on your date format settings in Windows.

On my Digiguide, gaps just appears as blank space.

Just a cheeky request - could someone please record the preceding ident and a few seconds of the slide when one of these Nations disappears this week? There was a great convoluted speech over one of the idents in Scotland a while ago causing the ident to stick on the end slide while she finished and then the slide. I expect nothing less from Wales Very Happy

You'll be in need of an upgrade to version 6.1 then Wink

Laughing In Wales it normally goes programme, trail, slide with something like "Watchdog and A Life Of Grime: tonight's Sign Zone begins in ten minutes here on BBC ONE Wales", music for ten minutes, trail, symbol, programme.

I watched the end of the film again on Wales to see what would happen, and they played the Humand Mind anyway. It was just a mistake in the listing that Human Mind wasn't there.

I didn't think there were any interludes any more, seeing as they've got all those 10 minute filler programmes and News 24 and stuff. This is real news to me! Does the slide say "follows shortly" as well? That'd be amazing, and I'll have to start watching BBC 1 Wales more, just for nostalgia purposes.

The slide would look something like:

Sign Zone

2.35 Watchdog
3.05 A Life of Grime

So no, no "follows shortly" Sad

I'm sure that could be arranged though! Wink

Here in Northern Ireland, we always have News 24 has our interlude, though if it were 10 minutes, we'd probably stick in a filler programme.
