Or the laserdisc globe for that matter.

Or any sort of globe.

This is a perfect example of what we feared would happen when the dancers launched.

Festival just 15 hours after the Pope had died

Eh? Under that obscure logic they shouldn't introduce the news with a clock this evening as a mark of respect for Whitley. What boliocks.

I don't see why there cannot be an ITV style ident with just the BBC One logo.

Maybe a still of Capoeira could be used for those programmes?

They used that for the death of the Queen mother when the dancer idents launched in late March 2002, and even that didn't look appropriate at all. The only thing that can provide such seriousness is the clock.

A still of Ballet was used to introduce the announcement of the Queen Mother's death.

I meant a still as a background for a menu on that day.

If you look back though, BBC ONE have used idents inappropriately (IMO) before - the more noticable examples being:

Festival just 15 hours after the Pope had died

To be honest, I think most people weren't that bothered by the Pope's death other than an, "Oh, he's died." reaction. It was hardly national mourning material.

Plus fifteen hours had elapsed...

If Festival had been played into a tribute programme then you would have a point. But not here.

I was more surprised by the fact that it had been used, not necessarily being completely inappropriate (as my first post said), so close to an event where Ballet had been brought back out, which happens to be reserved for times of national reflection.

On the topic of inapproriate idents, why do many see Haka as inappropriate?

Saying that other idents have been used in strange positions for example on a day (Sunday) with rugby programming, Haka was used in an earlier junction for something like the Heaven and Earth Show and then I think Tango was used for the actual rugby. You would have thought Haka would have been used for the rugby considering that it is a rugby dance.

They couldn't use the ballet ident at Christmas Time. Maybe a mix of the Xmas ident and the ballet music would be more useful

I woner if they would use the festival ident when Saddam Hussin dies

There is no reason why they couldn't have used the Ballet ident at Christmas. Also, despite the fact that Saddam undoubtedly ordered the killings of thousands of people, I still think that is a bit morbid to celebrate his eventual execution. The rightful place for celebration was either when he was overthrown or when he was arrested. Despite his removal from power, life for people in Iraq is hardly any better, and celebrating Saddam's death would hardly stop any attacks in Iraq.

And can you please explain your fascination with death, as it seems to feature in most of your posts....

Thank you

I personally found the whole Christmas Puddings inappropriate for all news programmes this year. It wasn't just the fact of the bouncing around and the bright background, it was the light-hearted jolly music. I would much rather have some children jogging (if that) around against a dark night sky background with a lighter less jolly piece of music. Hopefully for this year (presuming that we aren't going to get another ident) they will use both Snowflake and Christmas Puddings with Snowflake used for news.

IIRC the Christmas Puddings idea was put forward by the winner of a competition on Blue Peter...hopefully, we will have something else this year.

I never said anything good about people dying, It's what life does when people die or be ill. I am a very nice person really and would be very sad if people do die. Everyone hates Saddam so people want him to die

But why do all of your posts consist of death or the Crazy Frog (or of course "Coontdoon" as "we" call it in Scotland. Rolling Eyes)?

I am a fan of the C4 game show and the Crazy Frog isn't that awful. I've got the CD single and the ringtone. Maybe bad to you but there are people who like the cute creature too you know. I'll say it again. I am a nice person really. Maybe I'll cut down anything about death in therads in future
