BBC1 Haka Ident

Where's it gone? (January 2006)

I was watching BBC1 before the start of Millionaire Manor (no, I don't watch that) and saw that Salsa was used into the programme, which is my favourite of the original dancer idents from March 2002.

Then it suddenly occured to me that I haven't seen Haka for a long time. Has anyone else seen it or does anyone know if it's been withdrawn? IIRC it was used a lot into the start of Football Focus on a Saturday Afternoon and was also the ident used into the start of the world cup on 1st June 2002.

If it is common knowledge about its current status then my apologies for not paying more attention, but I felt I had to ask because IMO it is one of the better dancer idents on BBC1, and I'm starting to miss it. Crying or Very sad

It hasn't been deleted, but it's not currently in use and hasn't been since last summer.

To coin the wonderful phrase, "It's been rested". Classic!

Is there a reason why it's not in use?

In the winter, a sport ident like that just probably wouldn't feel appropriate.

Probably because someone in a position to do so requested that it should not be used because they don't like it!

But Rugby is (traditionally) a winter sport

Remind me again how racial stereotypes aren't racist?

Do you know anything about Maori's? Most likely not.

I was thinking the same point and all though had heard it was being rested last summer however didn't say anything as I thought it may be used during times when I am not watching BBC One.
It's a shame though as it has one of the best soundtracks and the actual dancing isn't that bad; though I know quite a few people dislike the ident.
Bring it back I say!

To be fair he is from over in that part of the world. Although to be fair, they probably complained when he murdered their cat.
