Saturday nights on BBC1 are just not a patch on what they once were!
The only flagship programmes now are Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who.
The Lottery shows are hit (Winning Lines) and miss (anything with Ian Wright!), while they don't seem to have anything regular to fill the post-Casualty slot.
And it's even worse now in the Winter with no regular schedule due to FA Cup games airing every 3 weeks!
Though to be fair you could argue ITV's only flagship Saturday night programme are The X Factor and Saturday Night Takeaway, with ITV not having much regular to fill the post-Millionaire slot!
Even just bringing back Fame Academy (though not against The X Factor / Pop Idol) would be an improvement (and that's saying something!). Also, the BBC had a great sports reality series called Born to Win on air last Summer - perfect for the post-Grandstand slot!

You can't say "Oh well, multi-channel is here, BBC1 ratings are bound to slump".
Have you seen most of the endless crap that is peddled my the vast majority of the digital channels? Most of the stuff on there is repeats, and often the most boring repeats imaginable.
BBC One *should* be attracting the most viewers out of any of the channels on the entire DSat & FV platforms, but it isn't. The whole corporation needs to get it's act together, and earn it's £126 a year from each of us.

Well maybe the audience viewership wants to see the "endless crap" on the digital channels. And considering most of these channels make their bread and butter from buying pretty much everything that's been on ITV in the last 20 years or so, people may prefer to watch something old but classic instead of new and awful. What you consider to be boring is fascinating to others.
£126 does not pay for BBC One on its own, although that network does get the lion's share of the fee.
Anyway, in a world of coming up to about 400 channels and an upward trend towards going digital and multi-channel homes, there's no way BBC One is able to keep attracting the most viewers, and this goes for all the terrestrial networks, not just the Beeb.

But you don't have to pay for Sky to watch the BBC!

And that is why his corporations should be booted out of the UK.

If you buy anything from insurance to domestic products advertsing will be included in the price - you can't ask them to knock off 20% because you don't watch the advert. Murdoch has no respect for culture or british programme making - just money and more money

Another week and another ratings disaster on BBC1.
He's Having a Baby only managed 1.4 million viewers with Ian Wright's latest vehicle receiving only 1.6 million.
A ancient repeat of Some Mother's Do Ave' em on BBC2 even managed to beat them!
I bet BBC1 are really desperate for these shows to hurry up and finish!
Meanwhile ITV1 got the highest saturday ratings since December 2003, The X factor pulled in a massive 9.4 million, more than any episode of The X factor has ever got!
