BBC1 evening programmes consistently running late

Why does BBC1 seem to be incapable of running programmes on time? It seems that the Schedule during the latter part of the evening always seems to run about two minutes or more late, without any legitimate reason such as live sport or Awards ceremony. This is particularly annoying for those of us using videos to timeshift.
Yesterday I missed the end of the Johnny Cash documentary because of this, and what made it particularly annoying was the realisation that, even though it was already running late, the BBC had made it worse by running 1 minute and 15 seconds of trailers for other programmes between the preceding programme and its starting. Why couldn't these have been left out?

No doubt the BBC would say that we should always change the time the setting manually to allow for a late finish of a programme, but rather than millions of people are having to remember to do this, isn't it simpler for someone at the BBC to take responsibility for making the programmes run to Schedule?.

If they were to say that, I'd agree with them. Add a few minutes each side and you'll be ok. It's not really hard is it? Regardless of whether you should need to do it or not, it's the sensible thing to do really.

Lets hope they do not turn into ITV (News at Ten etc.)

Why are you still banging on about News at When?
The only programme that regularly starts late is the 11pm one straight after the news.
Sometimes, the amount of trailers the BBC utilise is excessive.

a bit complacent, I'd say.
Bear in mind your suggestion:

1. results in a lot of wasted minutes on videotapes and recordable DVDs, unnecessary picture searching etc

2. makes it impossible to record a programme starting directly afterwards on a channel which chooses to broadcast its programmes on time.

3. renders us all into subservience, when we deserve better!

Also means that video+ without PDC is useless

Eh? There is if you're watching via analogue, although if you've got digital, PDC isn't available for any channel.

Thanks Dan. I was going to say the same as i have recorded programmes using PDC several times. Isn't ITV the only channel without PDC?

I believe so, in England, although I don't think S4C has it either.
