AIUI the only idents that should be used before either national or regional news bulletins (as opposed to current affairs) are Capoeira and Acrobats. Ballet has been "retired" AIUI - but can be used in times of serious news...

(This was a policy change made quite a while after the "dance" idents were introduced - but is still valid I believe)

Tai Chi and the Skateboarders are often used for Look North, often the dubiously cropped Tai Chi on the Yorkshire version, Skateboarders for East Yorks and Lincs.

Unless the rules have changed (and I can imagine Tai Chi being added to the News-friendly idents as it is quite gentle and generic) then Leeds are being naughty and breaking the rules. I can't see Skateboarders being deemed acceptable...

Skateboarders does actually work really well with the way they leave the ident playing under the introduction to the programme http://www.bbc.co.uk/england/looknorthhull/realmedia/viewer_belmont.ram

Well Leeds always used Acrobats, then during that period when Acrobats was dropped for a while, they used Tai Chi, then when Acrobats was allowed back, East Yorks & Lincs kept Tai Chi but Leeds went back to Acrobats, and then a few days later when Skateboarders was introduced and they used it at 10pm on the launch night, they seem to have got all adventurous and now use Skateboarders and Tai Chi almost all the time. Generally Tai Chi at lunchtime and on East Yorks at 6.30 with Skateboarders on Yorkshire at 6.30 and at 10!. They use Haka before The Super League Show.

Re the Inside Out trailer, Look North also ran this at the end of their opt, with a red Yorks & Lincs branded box, this stayed for a while as Peter Levy was probably looking at his monitor of the network feed and waiting for something to happen. When he opted back in, it looked like it was only the box that changed, to the LDN one

...and, since their introduction, Tai Chi (short) and Skate. Some may consider using the latter a tad bizarre, but I must admit I'm getting used to it - of course the music isn't the problem, "just" the visuals..!

Although it wouldn't have been the man Levy himself of course.

The Inside Out trail is a regular feature on the end of the Sunday Bulletin.

well seeing as i have caps to hand i may as well post - not the most exciting mistake (ranks just below those awful *LNN TRANSMISSION* screens with the lady and the beep we sometimes see on central).

trailer for tomorrow's inside out midlands *special* finishes (looks quite good, worth watching, but anyway)

and we cut to the london version and catch the last few seconds of the holding stage, then it freezes - then a black screen - then the weather

i have to say the LDN box looks a bit puny and weak compared to the midlands one.

What ident before National news? Cap/Acro/Scate/Tai?
In the other room from the TV all I could hear was some strange sounds so Just wondering what ident was used?

Slightly O/T, but apart from Capoeira, Acrobats, Tai Chi and Skateboarders, have any other idents been used to introduce BBC1 regional news programming?

midlands have used haka and hip hop used to always appear before weekend updates

The LDN may look a bit puny - but at least they spell Tomorrow with a capital "T"... Slap on the wrist for BBC Midlands for breaking the house-style and using a lower case "t" for "tomorrow"...

i think they consciously aim to break the rules of the house style, and we ought to congratulate them for it. although (prepared to be shot down, not being a font expert) but aren't LDN using gill sans where in fact they should be using franklin?

i think london ought to just be glad pebble mill have calmed down from the days of their amazing late 90s efforts. since when is midlands in capitals - and the existence of this "BBC Midlands" channel is news to me Laughing and lets not start on the use of fonts.

I do like those old trails for the midlands, very nice -- I still don't like the current style of BBC trails, with the huge whiteness at the bottom. A couple of special trails have been *allright*, but the majority aren't as nice as they were when they were all centred.

On the Inside Out trails, most regions are pretty conformist, but like the midlands the other regions who celebrate their non-conformity it seems are the West [extra big box], NE&C, and East Midlands -- for unbeatable unnecessarily weird box.

Unfortunately Wales get something boring about local businesses instead -- a lot of the Inside Outs are very interesting. But as if it matters, everyone's watching ITV.

I actually really dislike the East Midlands large box and wrong font; I know I should probably congratulate them for not being conformist, but it just comes across as unprofessional to me. If it was nothing like the proper style, it'd be fine, but being so close just makes it look like they've got it wrong. Which they have Wink

And the box looks ridiculous however you look at it. It's just completely the wrong proportion.
