After seeing a little update on the TV Room site all this came to me so sorry to spring this up so early but lets face it, It's only 4 months away. Laughing Anyway if you remember what the BBC done to BBC1 at christmas time in 2003 will remember that they re-used the previous years ident. This was due to the idents 'popularity' but whoever believes that believes anything. I suspect it was just a matter of them not bothering to make some new ones.
But then we come to last years idents and yes it's something new, yes it was made by a 12 year old girl but again it gets based around the theme of children which I technically call repeating last years ident just give them space hoppers to bounce on this time.
Now this year I hope the BBC really thinks about what they're going to do this year as I think it's about now (maybe a bit later) that they would start to plan & film them. I'm hoping we get rid of those awful children and try something thats even remotely 'christmassy'.
Now if the 1999 & 2000 idents are anything to go by then the BBC can get this spectacularly right. Just will they be prepared to put the time, money & effort to make them what they were? I very much doubt it but it would be nice. But I know theres more to life than what christmas is going to look like but they are a symbol of everyones christmas I feel as without them, It probably just feel like a normal day.
Anyway what do you think? Will the BBC be bothered ever again or could children be the symbol of our televisual christmas for a long time?

christmas is going to be the second most exciting event this year, after his 43rd birthday.

I did like the 1999 ones with the Santa going 'ho ho ho' behind the balloon. Very christmasy!

I hope the Beeb do make some new idents this Christmas but I doubt it somehow. It will probably be last years puddings again unless Blue Peter open another competition. I'd like to see a nice Christmas fireplace with a glowing tree this year - in tow with the whole 'Home for Christmas' thing.

Now this is where options can be decided. Obviously Peter Fincham has total control of BBC1's output and has made it clear that the Dancers are under review, now either we'll get a Dancer themed Christmas ident again, just to keep in and to blend in with the theme. Remember when Lorriane Heggessey took over BBC1 as controller, she made it clear the Balloons were going, this was sometime in 2001, though yet we saw a Balloon themed ident that Christmas, so could the same happen again.

Or either the opposite will happen and a brand spanking new ident with a whole new theme will be created.

But I believe the first would be more likely to happen. As it's September now I would guess that the plans for Christmas presentation have to be in the pipeline.

The thing we have to remember is that last year we had the controversy with Christmas Puddings into the news and more so into the news special following the Asian Tsunami. I think it is almost certain there will be no new ident this year and so it is rather likely that Christmas Puddings (or Magic and Sparkle as I believe its properly called) will be used again maybe (hopefully IMO) with the addition of Snowflake again with the use of Snowflake Slow for news and the normal Snowflake for more serious programmes.

I also think that there won't be a new ident for BBC One but one for BBC Two which didn't have anything last year not to mention the use of Ice Cube in the summer and Snowman in the snow.
My ideas for a BBC Two Christmas ident would be:

(Based on the NI ident Fry) A Two wearing a Christmas hat goes up to the table for Christmas dinner, with five or six other Twos sat down, and then starts eating it. The Two then pulls a cracker with another and out pops yet another Two as a prize with the Twos that pulled it laughing (in the same way as Big Read)

A Two looks around, notices a present wrapped up in purple wrapping paper with small Twos printed on and goes up to it. The two then pulls a Two shaped ribbon and the box opens with a Two inside. The Two who opened the box then puts up its hands in surprise.

Depends which way you look at it. That widget counts in whole days... but in fact it was about 110 days and 30 minutes when I took the cap. And when you posted that it would have been 109 days, 16 hours and about 30 minutes. But the widget would say 110 days.

Thanks for the "cue"!!!

I have nothing to comment upon Idents. However, if the BBC are going to be politically correct like the ROYAL MAIL has been this year, then Christmas may not be featured in their "Magical" ident. I bring the Royal Mail into mention as I have seen a sample of this years Christmas Stamp set. Now, we all know that Jesus was born in Israel and would no doubt have been Olive coloured, but stamps this year depict Mary and Jesus as:
Black,
Asian and Aboriginal. OK there is a picture of a European version, but come on, an ASIAN (Hindi) actually, Mary and Baby Jesus. For fear of being inclusive and avoiding offending ethnic minorities, they will probably succeed in offending the majority.

Thanks for correcting me Marksi all though I personally prefer Christmas Puddings; Bouncy Puddings just sounds silly IMO.
