THE BBC was at the centre of an unholy Christmas row last night after using a Satanic rock song to promote its festive programmes.

Embarrassed Beeb bosses called an emergency meeting after the Sunday Mercury exposed the black magic blunder – and have now taken the shock tune off air.

[...]
Its dark lyrics mocked the holy season and featured lines such as: "There'll be no Father Christmas, 'Cause it's Evils holiday", and "Silent Night, Violent Night".

Heee heee heee!!! Some people are so touchy!! I didn't for a minute think anything of this trail until these barmy Christian do-gooders pointed it out!!! Where's the sense of humour from folk?

After a few emails and no replys or replys with any details - I emailed BBC on Tuesday and asked them if there are plans for a BBC1 ident this year and when will it get underway.

I got a reply Sat that said "Your question was forwarded and a date has been set for the festive presentation to commence next week across BBC platforms."

Does this mean this week or next week? I think it is this Sat by the sounds of it.

Thanks for the tipoff InTune.

So for yonks they debuted on Christmas Eve. Then 22nd Dec 2000, 21st Dec 2001/2002, 20th Dec 2003, 18th Dec 2004, 17th Dec 2005 and now 16th Dec 2006.

By the end of the decade they'll be launching in June. Rolling Eyes

Let's just hope there's more than the one ident (not inc. short/long version!)

And moany sods to those who had a go at the trail music, I thought it was a superb choice.

Any idea as to what the BBC1 Christmas ident is this year or is it all very hush hush... for once!

I'd like to see a family entering their home after being out in the snow and the front door closing to reveal a holly wreath.

That would be quite good - and I suppose they could use the word "one" from BBC one in the style of brass door numbers....

I suppose I'm thinking the warmth of the Cockburns Special Reserve sponsor-ads that used to sponsor ITV Movies in the mid-nineties. No doubt starring Michael Fenton Stevens - he was around alot then!

I reckon either people building a snowman, playing with snow, rolling a snowball or just snow falling down... any of those could be circular or changed to be circular...

I think it is this Sat by the sounds of the reply I got (which was last week and said they would be on this week) and the tip off. I wonder what BBC2 will do?

I liked last years, but I hope they at least add one or two to the set if they are going to reuse them. They were a bit samey.

Start using it on Saturday as well probably.

So we're not even half way through December, 13 days till Christmas, yet just 4 days until the BBC Christmas idents air. As with all idents that are shown over and over again, I tire of them after a while. I was bored of the snowflake children the first year they were shown in 2002 by new years day. I'll probably be sick of these upcoming idents by 22nd - especially BBC2s as it was from last year.

Perhaps they meant Tuesday December 19th as that is really when their Christmas programmes begin with The Worst Christmas Of My Life. Saturday 16th is ridiculously early. People havn't even finished their Christmas shopping then!!! Also, sort of takes the magic out of Christmas.
