its v. strange how BBC2s xmas idents are still airing while BBC1's have stopped. therefore i agree with LONDON that we might see a return of BBC1s xmas idents tonight as all of tonights trails have sparkles on.
This has never happened before!!
They debuted on the same day and yet one finishes before the other!!
BBC Four's are still going too, as are their Xmas trailers. I was very surprised to see Hippos before Dibley.

Who the hell thought up that one? Bad enough we only got four days Christmas music with Ceefax
To be fair Christmas pres was on air about a week too early this year, we can't really complain.

Yes they started far too early, but New Year's Day is part of the Christmas holiday. And we've become used to having festive pres on the first day of the year.

Until 1995 (back in the days of paint and paper) I used to do seperate mocks for New Year on BBC1/2. However, I then decided it would be less time-consuming to have a catch-all ident for Christmas and New Year.
However, I would never have included fireworks in a New Year ident, since I've always believed their main use in this country should be for November 5.

IMO these firework mock designs for BBC1 & 2 by tvarksouthwest would have looked great on screen. (it was meant for bonfire night but they still would have worked well for new year)

Oh...you can't see my BBC/ITV region either. No idea why not, but it should be Spotlight/Westcountry.
Which will therefore identify "this country"!

Well since you need me to spell it out, of course I mean England - I know Guy Fawkes Night isn't celebrated in NI.
MA
Right... so you wouldn't use fireworks in a (theoretical) New Year ident because in England they're used for Guy Fawkes night?
And royal weddings. And the odd jubilee. And generally any big public celebrations. I was at a Christmas fireworks display with ickle relatives.
Seems rather odd logic.
