BBC1 Christmas

Discussing BBC1's festive presentation (November 2006)

I feel BBC1 should definately have had a second Christmas ident produced (especially since people are the main element of the current idents...and people's actions over and over and over again become somewhat boring). This would have slightly removed the tedious effect of just the one ident (people rolling a snowball) being shown at every junction, everyday for near on 3 weeks. I have to admit I personally think "Snowball" is a great ident, but a variation of "Snowball" or a different Christmasy-circle ident would have added that extra spark to BBC1's Christmas presentation.

What about starting Boxing Day, same ident but with the snowball melting?

That could actually work Smile . Atleast the "Melting Snowball" ident would be a truer representation of the mild (snow-free) winters we have nowadays lol.

Did any of the other nations or regions' announcers do a namecheck before SCD?

Here in Northern Ireland we had a personal goodbye and Happy Christmas "from me, Pamela Andrews", and she also said she was handing over to Phil Reid to guide us through the rest of Christmas night.

Nice touch, I thought!

Yeah I've heard quite afew namechecks and Christmasy messages from BBC1 announcers over the past two days. I think BBC1's 'Christmas spirit' is fantastic and makes you feel really Christmasy. And for ITV1...well what can I say...errmm "scrooge" lol? Merry Christmas!

BBC1 do manage to package up Christmas Day really well

The daytime schedule seemed really loose, allowing lots of time to show back to back trailers for practically the whole prime time schedule in every junction. Then they add those Christmas stings which they only use at this time of year

Is it me or do the stings sound like the start of BBC breakfast back in the early 90s.

Well I was thinking the same thing, more specifically the original "Breakfast Time" chimes. An exact clone actually!

Phil Vowels has just made a dedication to Peter Brook, who recently died, in his BBC1 closedown announcement.

A lovely gesture Phil.

I was just about to mention that. Very nice of Phil to dedicate tonight to him.

The 'shows' on Christmas day I felt were 'better' than last year just not 'packed' together as well as year.

This year's Green Green Grass was a lot better than lasts but on at the wrong time. Doctor Who p**sed on last year's episode from a great height. Little Britain could of been better but still a thumbs up overall. Even the vicar of Dibly was quite good. Just put together more like last year (When the Green Green Grass followed Dr. Who at 8PM) it would have been awesome.

3.00 The Queen
3.10 Strictly Come Dancing
3.40 Film: Monsters Inc
5.05 Strictly Come Dancing
6.05 News
6.10 My Family
6.40 Eastenders*
7.40 Doctor Who
8.40 Green Green Grass
9.25 The Vicar Of Dibly
10.25 Little Britain Abroad*
11.25 News
11.40 Film: Entrapment

(* Put both parts together)

Smashing. The good stuff was 'too spaced' in reality.
