BBC1 Christmas 2017 Idents

What will BBC1 show when leading into Grenfell Tower Memorial Service, tomorrow at 10.30am? Vista? Would be strange using a night scene for a sombre daytime programme but what else can they do? Maybe, like BBC2 with Optics, just break from the Christmas pres and use Forest.

Maybe there won't be one? or either that there will use promo endboard in red?

Almost certainly yes. Two could do with a sombre Christmas ident rather than using its "standard" (ie 1991 16:9 HD remastered right aligned green box make do) idents for Newsnight/serious programming. I remember in 2015 a programme about veterans with PTSD broadcast around this date in December was introduced with Silk rather than the Two Two Two Two Two Two Two alternative. And I was cross. Very cross.

There's no reason at all for anything other than Vista to be used. It's merely a memorial service for a tragic event that happened six months ago - it's not announcing the death of the Queen's favourite corgi.

Optics was introduced in 1992. I agree though, they should use the 1994 Chirstmas 'Pergola' ident, as used in NI, for serious programming, but maybe with a more sombre soundtrack than Swan.

They used Vista leading into the memorial service.

Due to the memorial service overrunning the scheduled episode of Bargain Hunt had to be replaced. (They also used Vista twice out of that junction, with one use being uninterrupted).

But the overruning also meant that the iPlayer schedule got messed up in a really bizarre way.

BBC1 showed the programme menu graphic on 16-12-2017 at 9.01pm, unusually, with just the proceeding programme displayed (no subsequent programming information below the BBC logo), allowing more of that splendid background to be seen unobscured.

Nice delayed anno for the News handover early this morning on Wales. Shame about the audible countdown though.
