BBC1 Christmas 2017 Idents

...here's your definitive answer (quicker than I anticipated being able to give you).

It is easy on the eye and really quite beautiful. It's the attention to the smallest of details which surprises me this year.

You know, this superb Christmas pres will always be linked with the rubbish regular Oneness idents because obviously it's all under the Oneness tag, and it just doesn't deserve to be. It's like chalk and cheese.

Apparently the music in the idents is Symphony by Clean Bandit.

In my mind, there is absolutely no connection between this work and that dreadful standard set of "Oneness" idents. I'm not going to waste my breath slating that stuff again - we know it's woeful - and we're going to have to grin and bear it a while longer, unfortunately.

I really like BBC One's Christmas campaign. Refreshingly different and as some of those behind-the-scenes clips have stated, steering away from the typical Christmas clichés. The attention to detail in some of the background sets is staggering - and will doubtless go unappreciated by most. But this is the high quality and attention to detail that we need to be seeing for BBC One's standard branding package. I'm a lot more optimistic now re potential replacements for "Oneness". Sad that such a well executed piece of work will get such a short run but just fantastic to see the big channel back on form again.

A depressing thought that the terribleness returns in the new year. But will savour the next two-and-half weeks or so.

I agree with every word, Michael. Do you think the BBC went about commissioning a project which had to have a high technical standard this particular Christmas due to the (understandably) poorly received regular Oneness idents and they wanted to 'make up for the disappointment'? Just a thought.

The Oneness stuff has not been well received within creative circles - that I know. There's perhaps a point to prove. As point proving goes, they've done very well indeed.

As you say, come 1st Jan, it'll be such a noticable drop in pres standards on BBC1. Not an experience I look forward to feeling. Must accept the inevitable

It has grown on me, but Im still not keen on the washing or lights idents but the tolly one I do like. I've still not had the pleasure of that wonderful menu, Scotland either skips a menu or promotes a sport programme instead.

So if the creative circles think oneness is crap and public think its crap why is the BBC using them? It clearly there been done on the cheap with one camera etc I dont believe for a second there cost much to make since there ask groups of people to be in them and the originations got cheque for a grand? Martin probably got his 20 grand... ? I dont know, It would be nice to have some cost figure here?
