Is there an alternate daytime version of that news ident? Not sure a moonlit landscape will work going into the One.
Presumably there's a daytime version? No idea just speculation.
Don't they use the Oneness Kayakers ident set at night during the daytime for the news bulletins? Someone will correct me, I'm sure.
I remember them doing daytime / nightime variants of Christmas idents in the 1990s (e.g. the lovely 1993 animated North Pole set with the polar bears looking up at the base of the iced '1') but not so much in recent years.

The worst ident for me is the fixing of the Christmas lights. You can only really ever show that as a short ident as they seem to do the same fist pump celebration every time the lights are fixed.
Overall looking at BBC One's Twitter, it seems to be positively received, mainly the promo.
Many of the comments are applauding the subtle touches within, mainly wen the dad refuses to do the cartwheel during the fantasy dance sequence.
Overall... not bad. Not great but not bad. I think whatever the BBC put out this Christmas would be seen as an improvement compared to their usual idents over the past year. There's no comparison.
Last night, my initial thoughts after seeing the first ident was one of minor disappointment. After sleeping on it, I do feel as though my opinions have changed.
It is a pretty nice package - the animation is sweet, and the short film that accompanies the idents is very heartwarming. Reading the press release and still seeing them tying it in to 'Oneness' is a bit of a stretch, though. The idents set a tone that makes me smile - one that is happy, and I imagine is somewhat relatable to some people. Even the news / serious ident is sweet (but the absence of pretty much any background noise is a bit jarring - either the ambience needs turning up or my TV does!).
Maybe it's just because we've had a year of pretty atrocious presentation across the board for the BBC (with 'Oneness', the horrible font spacing on BBC Two promos, and just a lack of a unified format), but I feel as though this is proof that BBC Creative can still do something right when they avoid being totally artsy and W1A-y. The package has obviously been prepared with a clear idea in mind, and the charm and the attention to detail taken with the project really shows. It might not be the best ever seen (I quite like 5's Christmas pres this year), but I assume we'll see at least a couple more idents introduced in the run up to Christmas that make it even better - probably stuff in the short film that can easily be looped like the escalator dance.
Having looked at them all now, I actually quite like them. After seeing the first washing up ident I was disappointed that we'd gone down the route of short looped animations like with Sprout Boy again, but the other idents seem to suffer from this less (the supermarket ident could easily have been looped but they're doing a different pose each time they appear), and the news safe ident (especially with the music in NI) is lovely. I miss the Circles and agree this isn't their best work but on the whole I do quite like it@
