It beats the John Lewis ad, and beats the 2016 Sainsbury's ad in the similar style. A film with a proper moment to chuckle at, and seems far more genuine than the usual John Lewis fare.
They couldn't have picked a better junction to show the film, so I doubt many people will be mystified.
The loop is slighty reminiscent of the Wallace and Gromit loops, and just tops it off for me. Brilliant.
I still don't know how it's a "Christmas" ident other than paper chains in the kitchen.
Well, the theme revolves around a Christmas play.. Christmassy enough; also, you get Christmas decorations, as mentioned already
It's an innovative concept, not your typical Christmas ident and, to be fair (and I know I criticised it only some mins ago), they can be appreciated for their will in trying something new
Yes, it follows the Oneness campaign. But I don't mind it. At least it has a pop song that the general audience can recognise. It could be so much worse people, half naked santas in a swimming pool staring at you for 20 seconds.
Doesn't do a lot for me. I'm getting bored of these tortured sequences where it all builds up to an optimistic crescendo only for a personal tragedy to jeopardise that happy ending. I'm not a Scrooge, but it always turns out alright so why invest into anyway? A slushy rom com where you've given 90 minutes of your life may be worth a wry smile once the protagonists eventually (and predictably) get together in the final scene... but I'd prefer to see something a little more hopeful from the start.
Besides, the father is a right dick for ignoring his daughter throughout the sequence and his only act is to film her performance through a phone (although he gets bonus points for having his device in landscape).
