Mike:
"What's going on with BBC Northern Ireland's sparkly logo then? On virtually all of the trails. the text and sparkles are...green!!!"

Marksi:
"Well. It's kind of white with a hint of green.... All that said, there aren't many people as observant as you Mike so I think we'll get away with it for a couple of weeks!"

The box is almost brown on my set... oops Smile

interesting that Yorks and Lincs have a black Subtitles strap, whilst NorthWest have done it in white (on a white background), and other regions haven't bothered

For some strange reason they sent the idents to all the regions and then e-mailed round to mention that they needed subtitle captions. IIRC they're meant to be black to contrast with the white snow

But of course the 'Subtitles' strap on the non-regional branded versions of the ident played out from London appears in white!...

So far here in the East, I have not seen the 'Subtitles' strap appear on the regional version of this years Christmas ident, let alone on the usual idents used into the 1, 6 and 10 National news bulletins, and into regional programming and The Politics Show, since the move to the Forum in October 2003.

And I think also (from seeing the images posted in the "In The News" topic under the "Central West & BBC Midlands" thread), that the Midlands regional version also does not carry the 'Subtitles' strap either.

On BBC1 Yorkshire this evening, before the news at 10:45PM, an interesting error occured. The formal version of the ident appeared, but this was the national one. Three seconds later, just when I thought the regional idents were gone, BBC1 Yorkshire's version of the ident appeared instead. They're useless at the Leeds studio.

It was more like 1 second late!
They also clipped the LDN headlines as well. With reactions times like that let's hope the director is not driving tonight!!

The usual formal version of the BBC1 Christmas pudding ident was used this evening to introduce the newsflash regarding the Asian Earthquake. Very bad idea IMO. I know, it's Christmas, but this is a very serious and solumn matter. I think that they should have used a silent still of ballet instead.

What a sad coincidence that such a situation did arise, after all of our discussion about it. Anyway, a still of Ballet would look crap:

The blurred still of Capoeira used on the day of the Queen Mother's death looked better.

What was wrong with the BBC News Report slide?

I didn't realise they did a News Flash for the Earthquake. Thought it only happened when a member of the Royal Family passes away or something similar nowadays.

Well, good ol BBC1.

When was the last time we saw one of those?

I always thought they were a slightly odd use of slides; given that idents introduce programmes and slides promote them, it's about the only use of slides to introduce programmes.

Hi can anyone help me?

I heard a few months back that the BBC were using an ident over the Christmas period which featured artists such as Elton John, Will Young and I forget who else Embarassed

It was to be a sort of remake of "Perfect Day" with the artists playing instruments that they didnt usually do- eg Elton on Drums Very Happy

Does anyone have any info?

Thanks xx

Don't think there was a Newsflash on BBC One. There was a scheduled BBC One bulletin in the morning, which came from News 24.
(I believe this was a scheduled News 24 bulletin on BBC One, as the late BBC One news was later than normal, so two studio crews would have been needed on Boxing Day if the BBC One studio had been used, especially as the normal Breakfast crew wouldn't have been in)

There was then an additional news update - not a newsflash - scheduled in the early evening.

Neither of these were newsflashes - and as they were longer than a newsflash, a continuity announcement and titles were appropriate.

(I suspect the Tim Wilcox mention was because they thought the script was wrong, as they saw Tim really close to the opt-in for BBC One...)
