Just no special idents please. Show you are better than the rest by shunning the self-congratulation.

Apart from that, well done The One!

Excellent news - we all need a strong BBC One. Happy to see some new idents though Smile

ITV2 has been awarded Non-terrestrial channel of the year

What Simon was meaning is, will we have 'Channel of the Year' written on every BBC1 ident for the next year? This is a trend that I think GMTV started and now everybody seems to do it

I know it's slim pickings, but it always seems the winners of these awards are selected at random. BBC Two and Channel 4 are more deserving.

If I had my way (and I never will), none of them would win. British TV is sh*t at the moment (there are some exceptions, but not many).

In my books that qualifies as a terrestrial channel.

That's exactly what I meant, and while it would provide extra footage for TV Ark it would also make a mockery of the award.

The best way for BBC1 to demonstrate why it won this accolade would be to show some dignity and not brand its idents with anything other than "Subtitles" and/or a region name. With so many channels displaying the names of whatever awards they have won on their idents, it won't be long before these titles look devalued.

Maybe they could use a modified 'hippo' ident, where the hippo that comes up close has a rosette on it saying 'channel of the year'. Laughing

Indeed and come October when DSO begins there will be little justification for differentiating between analogue and digital terrestrial channels for this award. Although why there should be seperate catagories for DTT, DSat and DCab is beyond me since most of the channels are the same.

I think it's fair enough that the big five have their own category. Even after DSO, BBC1, BBC2, ITV, C4 and C5 will remain the 'core' channels with the biggest budgets (C5 will in all likelihood gain greater market share from it's then universal coverage) and I think it's fair enough that they are judged against themselves. Beyond that however, I'd agree that there's no point in differentiating between all the others.

I'd go for two categories - one for the core channels, one for everyone else. And just for a twist, define a minimum audience share for the core channels, with relegation/promotion allowed.
