i thought the decision to cancel Grandstand was made by Roger Mosey, the BBC Sport boss?

and the press were told - by Fincham - that the Queen walked out of the shoot, they didn't just jump to conclusions.

IMO DanceX and most of the numerous talent competitions should be scrapped and replaced with some proper television. If you look at C4's Saturday night offerings and perhaps make it a little more light-hearted, that's the sort of thing PF should consider.

Absolutely. If I was the head of BBC South West I'd have probably blown my entire programme budget over these last few months on repeats of Two Ronnies, Fawlty Towers etc. to cover up the reality rubbish like DanceX and Joseph!

And he's hammered the first nail in Blue Peter's coffin too by axing one episode a week.

It was only two episodes a week until 1996/97, so quite how dropping the third episode will weaken the show is something I can't get my head round.

Who told him though? Was he jumping to conclusiopns or did marketing tell him? If the latter they should be fired en-masse.

According to Charles Runcie, they only had one complaint about Grandstand being axed.

God, could Peter Fincham end up more hated than Lorraine Heggesey?

He's already made one massive mistake in the axing of Grandstand - especially as most people probably don't realise it has been axed considering apart from the lack of theme tune, there is very little change to how sport is presented at the weekend!

And he's hammered the first nail in Blue Peter's coffin too by axing one episode a week.

And now he's refusing to rule out a fifth episode of EastEnders, despite universal agreement that ever since it went to four episodes it's been crap!

And he's got rid of Neighbours - yes, I know they couldn't afford to keep it but I just hope Peter Fincham knows what he's doing with all these programme changes etc.

Ratings wise it seems he hasn't got a clue but time will tell.

That's because they tried to do it when nobody was looking!

And obviously they don't take the complaints on the Sport editors blogs into account - mainly because they screen alot of the negative ones out!

I wouldn't have thought Peter alone made that decision. Yes it's sad Neighbours is going, but Fremantle's demands were unrealistic.

Look on the bright side - tennis haters won't have an enforced two-week break from Ramsay Street any more!

When TV starts to be all about ratings, something is wrong. BBC1 is not ITV1, and quite rightly takes risks such as Panorama in prime time and The One Show.

Hardly risk taking - moving their flagship current affairs show opposite probably the highest rated programme of the week while the ONE Show is just a lazy painting by numbers attempt to fill an awkward slot.
