Christmas hits were playing on Ceefax whilst I was flicking through after Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.

No sign of it in the listings yet........

It won't be in the listings. It's a test, not part of the programme schedule. Ceefax only ever appears as 'This Is BBC Two' these days.

It usually shows up in DigiGuide listings like this:

"Joins BBC News 24 (analogue closes 4.00am - 5.00am)"

It also shows up in other listings sources as "Close".

No sign of it on DigiGuide, as all BBC News 24 joinings are simply listed as 'Round the clock breaking news'. However, it is showing that BBC Two will be joining News 24on Monday 8th at 1:55 am, followed by normal closedown (Pages from Ceefax) rather than going straight to closedown. This is also the only night it's doing this, so that could suggest the tests will be at that time.

If there are tests this year presumably they will be the last ones, given that as Spencer points out during DSO many transmitters won't have a nearest neighbour still radiating an analogue signal to rebroadcast.

This year's tests are as I understand it:-

Friday, 5th January, (Thursday into Friday for those freaks in Pres who think the day starts at 0600)

BBC ONE 0400-0500

BBC TWO 0230-0330

Great, a really inconvenient time. What source did you get it from?

If anyone's interested, there a couple of pages dedicated to the test card in the well-produced Life on Mars book. It talks about why the test card was shown, mentions George and Carole Hersee, and about The Test Card Circle which is on some interweb thingy.

The book also mentions greenscreen and the wizardry used to create some of the 70s scenes and programs they use such as Maya, Photoshop and Fusion.

Thanks for that, I might just buy myself a copy.
