Can I really annoy you all by telling you I've been in that balloon ...?

How did you get in the balloon were you one of the crew or did you manage to get a flight in it since it was handed to BPG(in which case they are mixed messages on weather it flys or in a box somewere.

No, I was at the Fiesta the last year it flew. It's a nice balloon but was beginning to look a bit tatty up-close. Real shame, much as Heggessey claimed it was too distant from the audience (or whatever the excuse was), it was one of the icons that BBC1 was and has been known by for years. Shame that it has been retired, more of a shame it's off the telly.

Because we all know the idents she introduced were just so in touch with viewers and they really had a strong reference to what the channel was about I am sure every member of the public loved them and misses them hugely. Laughing Laughing

And the balloon should be top of the BPGs restoration list and get it flying as soon as possible. But in the bbc report they did say "it will never again take to the skies".maybe BPG haven't got authorization to fly it. Sad

I miss the balloon. Simple and it worked. The balloon represented the globe in an orginal way, yet it emphasised Britain by flying over the country in various well-known beauty spots.

Much better than the pretentious guff we have now, I think.

What a very informative reply to that message.

You might hear essences of the Balloon era music in the new BBC Generic idents, for DVD etc.

Its just a new generic Ident for the BBC. Its very similar to the start of the NOW on the BBC promos, with a lil bit of tweaking. You'll see in a few months!

Why did it look so tatty its only young compared to other ballons and has done next to none flying hours for its age I must say "peserving" a balloon but keeping it wraped up and kept in a box kind of defeats the purpos I wonder if someone would be prepaired to buy it.It also makes me wonder why the bpg had decided before they even got the balloon that they were never going to fly it.
