That p!sses me off that. Who the hell cares if a clock is a few seconds behind. BBC don't have to start their programmes RIGHT on time, do they?

Ah yes, I did enjoy the contemplative ident before MOTD with the voiceover...
"Jean Claude van Damme battles an evil supercomputer hellbent on world domination".
Nice contrast!

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean their replacement will be any better. They'll still comission a branding agency who will want to make something that is more 'simplified' and 'coherent', and along will come some wank with an expensive price tag.
That said, idiotic people idents to seem to be dying out finally, they may introduce something vaguely decent.
I don't buy this at all. I understand that the time would lag behind on different platforms, but that's not a reason not to have a clock. The clock was just a presentation device (and a very effective one), it was not seriously used as an accurate timepiece by anyone. Delays on different platforms is no reason at all not to have a clock (and of course, they were still quite happy to put a clock up for the first 3 1/2 years of digital TV).

Anyway this new man coming into BBC One apparently "loathes" the dancers (Sounds like he has some sense) So maybe we can get some new pres, preferably not costing 45k an ident and throwing the license fee down the drain.

Apparently the BALLET ident will only be used for around 24 hours following the announcement. So it is likely to disappear anytime after the last news programme tonight.

Why does a clock say 'National Reflection'?.... especially if people look at it and think 'almost time to pick the kids up from school'

No. It's another Heggessey success. It's only to be used in time of "National Reflection". For heaven sake why not have a clock. Its simply yet effective and doesn't need to be dug up every time theres a big news story.

Yes, Unfortunately it will come down to this. I really hope that something new and initivive can be made. Channel 4 seem to have managed to re-launch very well.
On another note is Heggessey on holiday? Just we seem to be having some rather good programme out of the One recently.

No. The Ballet Ident is reserved for times of "national reflection". A clock is free of any elements which could be interpeted. For example Ballet was used on the breaking of the Asian Tsunami news, but some people read into the sea in the background and found this offensive. With a clock there would be none of this, its simply and effective.

But what would happen if Parliament was attacked by terrorists and Big Ben fell onto members of the public outside killing them instantly?
Of course, during the Balloons era, there were talks about what BBC1 Presentation would do should Richard Bransons attempt to fly around the world in a balloon ended in tragedy, which it very nearly did!

Absolutely anything can be seen as offensive these days. People really need to get a grip on reality - If I was to be offended by an ident it would have to look like this:
