Has anoyone noticed that BBC1 analogue tonight is broadcasting everything in 4:3, but its still 16:9 on digital? This is a good idea IMO as it will stop people from being annoyed by black bars. If the BBC were doing this from the start of 16:9, then we would probabally still have analogue. Lets hope this sticks.
Edit: Shortly after I posted this, they switched back to 14:9.

I think this is a mistake, as at the start of the Ronnie Barker programme at 7.25 - which was a 4:3 programme - it was being transmitted as 4:3 in a 16:9 frame on digital and 4:3 in a 14:9 frame on analogue. This was rectified soon after the start and broadcast in 4:3 full frame in both, but while digital is switching between 16:9 and 4:3 analogue as usual, analogue has remained in 4:3. This is the second time I've seen this happen on BBC1 recently.

Yes, a couple of weeks ago on Friday morning, everything remained in 4:3 on analogue BBC one until about 5mins into the 1pm news.
I also think its a good idea, as it shows how much ppl are missing by not having a widescreen tv. On the other hand perhaps people wouldn't know they were missing anything if the black bars wernt there to remind them it was in widescreen....
It happened with Crimewatch Daily, it was broadcast 14:9 on a 4:3 frame, then it went to 4:3 after five minutes.
Did anyone watch today's Crimewatch Daily, it had no sound for five minutes, the Beeb then put out a message with the announcer saying they've got all their engineers working on it!
