This is potentially a stupid question but why is BBC Prime called "Prime"?
I'd have thought that Prime usually means the best parts of whatever you are referring to, so hence forth BBC Prime bringing the best bits of BBC1 and BBC2, although I cannot comment as I've never watched it.
I managed to watch BBC World when I was in Paris in 2001 and it was rather strange, but at the end of the day alot of the material is the same, except the Countdown and Idents are different. You also had to put up with Adverts if you were watching the Cable feed rather than the Satellite feed.

They should call BBC Prime, BBC Cr@p because its pretty awful, I am sure they are not any expats who will watch it, we can't comment on BBC Food as its only available on 1W, BBC World again its useful for its news agenda but its not as good for the pres fan as it once was.
As I understand it, BBC Food is quite simply a rebadged UKTV Food. From what I've seen of it when they've turned off their encryption, BBC Prime is a rubbish channel, nothing we can't already get on Sky via the BBC and UKTV channels. The news on BBC World is more internationally orientated, but it's not mucgh different to News 24.

They're similar but not identical; the schedules aren't the same, and for the purposes of playout, they're treated as entirely separate channels.
I just can't see the point in an "international" food channel. Why can't fthey just have more food programmes on the existing BBC Entertainment channel?
Why are we giving foreigners are tv? I'm not in favour of funding this -- albeit through my taxes. Surely they have their own news and if they don't why should we provide it? Under dictators or whatever, I'm not interested in their plight. We could surely have a slice of the budget if we scrapped all world services? Then put it back in for dramas for the home market.
