The fact that the channel carries the BBC Name, and the fact that the presenters are British, BBC World presenters should be allowed to wear the poppy.

Presenters on BBC World are not allowed to wear poppies because 'the reasoning for them is not widely know internationally.' In my view thats exactly why they should wear them!

What are your views?

For goodness's sake WHY are y'all fuzzing over that poppy? Other countries probably use other symbols to remember those who had fallen in wars, and they probably remember them on a different date. Why are y'all forcing other people to do things YOUR way just because of your personal preferences? Why are you trying to limit other people's freedom of expression?

And a poppy is no more than a symbol. The most important thing is that we remember those who had fallen in our hearts. Otherwise the poppy's just meaningless.

erm, because the poppy is calssed as extreamly important in this country and not just a little thing like a full stop badge

Well.. Deborah <somebody> is standing-in for/replacing for Heather McCarthy in the midnight joint N24/world bulletin right now, and *is* wearing a poppy, and presumably will be for the rest of the night.

How very British.

Getting worked up about a product not paid for by Brits directly and not delivered to Brits directly, but nevertheless outrage at how it offends us! Confused

Oh - and, of course, the mandatory British outrage at 'political correctness gone mad'!!!

I agree with Derek, its not an international symbol, and most viewers would just wonder what they are...

Of course its standard British thinking to think that anything thats important to use is important to the rest of the world. most countrys have differnt ways of remembering war dead.

And for comparison - do the US presenters on CNNI wear those american flag lapel pins? I bet they dont...

In my view, I can see why people and organisations such as the British Legion are angry over the BBC's decision not to allow poppies on BBC WORLD. The BBC is British and according to them should therefore display poppies.

However, I have to agree with the BBC. BBC WORLD is a worldwide network which is not shown in the United Kingdom anyway. I can see why such a symbol would create confusion amongst some people outside of the country.

To be fair to the BBC, presenters have worn poppies when shown in the UK - in the case of the joint weekend and overnight broadcasts between WORLD and N24.

I believe the BBC have made the right decision.
