I know this won't make sense to most people in the forum, so I apologise for bringing out this complaint again!

My question is does BBC World News use a different sound system to the rest of BBC News?

The thing I don't understand is why is the World headlines bed on BBC News never played out at a consistant level.

What tends to happen, and seems to be regular most of the time is that at the beginning of the programme it's OK, but when they summarise the headlines, it's always played out too low, when that happens I ask myself why oh why did the BBC give the World News, the best headlines music, when the soundsperson(s) is so inconsistant with the sound of the headlines bed.

The weird thing was that during the BBC World Vote 2001 programme, this was OK, but as soon as World News started, it's gone back to normal again

Is it to much to ask for the soundperson to keep it consistant, for a programme that goes out to the world, there really is no excuse at all!

OK, i'll really be grateful for anyone who knows why this is happening, as it is really irratating!

I was on holiday last week and I found this problem too - you're right, it is annoying! Also, they usually talk over the thunderclap at the start of the bed when summarizing!

I've watched Philip haytons bulletin, seems to be OK at the moment, but the the problem is that it's OK for a few hours, then for the rest of the day, it's goes odd again!

All our vamps & tags are played from Mini-Disk

Occassionally new versions are added to the mini-disks, and as such are not always recorded at the same level.

We do sound mix correctly, or attempt to (!!) but the sound bod doesn't just do the sound, they also line up with Outside Sources, keep an eye on and correct the automation system where necessary etc.

We're a multi-talented bunch of professionals who occassionally don't have enough hands for the jobs which require our immediate attention

That's interesting stuff, I've noticed the sound performance is a lot better now!

I've just one more question, how come BBC World get a black border when the 'News Update' aston, 'Breaking News' aston comes up, but not on News 24. I thought it would make sense for News 24 to have it because sometimes in the bright background, you can't see the BBC News 24 DOG, but only the 'News Update', 'Breaking News' aston!

You said all vamps and tags are recorded on mini disk, so how come the problem hasn't been recognisable on News 24 and BBC One News then, if you use the same techniques?

Firstly, BBC 1 News don't operate in the same way as Continuous News, they use a full gallery of PEOPLE rather than computers.

Secondly, it is not a 'problem'. As I said in my earlier entry, we are extremely busy people, and sometimes our attention may be focused on other things, such as getting live interviews lined up etc.
