On the nice new Points of View message board there's a couple of posts about us wanting BBC World here in the UK. It's on the 'general BBC' message board. You'll need to register first, but if you want BBC World here in the UK (giving a good argument) then please post!

Oh for heavens sake.
How many times is this going to come up?

BBC WORLD IS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE UK AS IT IS AN ADVERTISING FUNDED SERVICE.

The fact that they can edit out the adverts is not the point! It is funded by adverts and hence the BBC will not let you watch it.

As long as BBC World carries adverts you will not be able to see it.
They tried a non advert version called World Service Television, and whoever thinks the finances are in one group is very very wrong.

BBC World is attached to the BBC Worldwide arm, and hence gets its money from adverts.
BBC News 24 is attached to BBC News and hence gets its money from a license fee.

If you want it so bloody badly go and stick a dish to the side of your house and turn it to 13 Deg. East!!!!!

Please can we stop starting this thread over and over again!?!?
If you want to watch BBC World it is available via the internet and that is how it will remain.

I get annoyed because of the fact that you continually ask for BBC World yet it will never legally be available in this country.
You know that, so why do you continue to nag and nag the BBC for it?

BBC World IS funded by adverts, but they are inserted by local broadcasters, the ads are inserted during that headline/weather/sport/business etc. section. Why don't they just put the clean feed on?

BBC World may not be available to us at the moment but i for one cant see the licence fee lasting for that many more years. I think that due to the ever popular subscription channels we will one day see the BBC turn into a subscription service and will have to carry adverts eventually to fund itself. If it one day does turn into a ad funded company then you may well see it in the UK but then its only if the BBC want you to.

Wouldn't being able to see BBC World basically undermine the purpose of BBC News 24? There would be no point anyway!

I would have to agree with you, i've got BBC World and it mostly shows the same stuff, however I find it useful for certain programmes like Asia Today which is shown at a respectable time on BBC World, the south asia coverage from the BBC is fantastic!

Also BBC World do show some good programmes from BBC's archive, such as Pole to Pole with Michael Palin,

You also get some exclusive programming which will never make it on News 24, such as the World debate, which recently had ex USA president Bill Clinton, and programmes like Earth Report and Life, which highlight global issues.

What I like about BBC World, is that it has atmosphere, it feels like you are sitting in the newsroom, unlike News 24 which is just not the same!

Yes, I know all about the seperate funding of the groups, I've written Business Studies portfolio on it. But, they seem to mix - for example, Peter Coe presents on both. Does he get two salary packages, one from each company???

BBC World is owned and distrubted by BBC Worldwide ltd.  They sub-contract BBC News to provide the content of the channel.  All the news based staff are employed/contracted to BBC News, and therefore staff could could work on any service.
